He’s a finance journalist and our Productivity Commission is certainly not a bunch of lefties.

Goods have never been cheaper but I’m not sure if health and education is better, and with lower wages and now company taxes also, revenues are constantly being squeezed.

Private health is getting to crisis point as fewer can afford self insurance......a ticking time bomb.

Our UK PM makes the UK the laughing stock and is publicly ridiculed at  leaders summit at Davos...........................

Angela Merkel reportedly left journalists “laughing uproariously” after mocking Theresa May‘s attempts to negotiate a trading relationship post-Brexit.   The German chancellor said she had been trapped in a recurring conversation with the British Prime Minister since the EU referendum in 2016.  Speaking to a “secret” press meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Ms Merkel claimed Ms May had repeatedly asked her to “make me an offer”, according to a report by ITV political pundit Robert Peston.   Ms Merkel said that when she replied “but you’re leaving – we don’t have to make you an offer. Come on what do you want?”, Ms May replied again, “Make me an offer.”  “And so, according to Mrs Merkel, the two find themselves trapped in a recurring loop of ‘what do you want?’ and ‘make me an offer’,” Mr Peston wrote on his Facebook page.   But while journalists laughed at the exchange, others have been quick to suggest the conversation, if it took place as reported, should worry those hoping Britain is on course to secure a prosperous future trading relationship with the EU.  It follows reports of growing divisions within Ms May’s Conservatives over the long-term trading arrangement Britain wants with the EU.   A planned major speech next month to set out Ms May's vision is reported to have been downgraded because the Cabinet cannot agree on its aims – although Downing Street denies it was ever intended to be a major policy-defining address. Brexiteer Tories have demanded the sacking of Chancellor Philip Hammond in recent days over his call for an ultra-soft Brexit.  Meanwhile, more Tory MPs are reportedly preparing to sign letters demanding a vote of no confidence in Ms May’s leadership, taking the total closer to the 48 required to trigger the ballot.

For the sake of UK Ms May should consider her position as she is neither strong or stable.

Good business there for someone to produce 'Great Britain Third Country' merchandise.

Maybe the European Research Group (Conservative MP's) can do that and repay tax payers money they are robbing from the tax payers

to fund their little 'organisation'.

The transition period is set at 21 months from March 2019.
The UK will have to abide by and enforce all EU regulations up until December 31st 2021.
This means the UK will have to abide by the EU's anti tax avoidance directive for a minimum of 21 Months.
(It begins in Feb 2019)

Quelle Surprise............

Leaked Government Brexit Analysis Says The UK Will Be Worse Off In Every Scenario

The government's new analysis of the impact of Brexit says the UK would be worse off outside the European Union under every scenario modelled, BuzzFeed News can reveal.  The assessment, which is titled “EU Exit Analysis – Cross Whitehall Briefing” and dated January 2018, looked at three of the most plausible Brexit scenarios based on existing EU arrangements.  Under a comprehensive free trade agreement with the EU, UK growth would be 5% lower over the next 15 years compared to current forecasts, according to the analysis.   The "no deal" scenario, which would see the UK revert to World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, would reduce growth by 8% over that period. The softest Brexit option of continued single-market access through membership of the European Economic Area would, in the longer term, still lower growth by 2%.  These calculations do not take into account any short-term hits to the economy from Brexit, such as the cost of adjusting the economy to new customs arrangements.

The assessment seen by BuzzFeed News is being kept tightly guarded inside government. It was prepared by officials across Whitehall for the Department for Exiting the European Union (DExEU) and is reportedly being presented to key ministers in one-to-one meetings this week ahead of discussion at the Brexit cabinet subcommittee next week.  Asked why the prime minister was not making the analysis public, a DExEU source told BuzzFeed News: "Because it's embarrassing."  Even though the analysis assumes that the UK will agree a trade deal with the US, roll over dozens of the EU’s current trade agreements, and consider loosening regulations after Brexit, there is no scenario that does not leave the country worse off.

I am no fan of Andrew Neil (Thatcher stooge one may remember) but nice one for ripping my MP Robin Walker (claimed for a 2p pencil sharpner) , BREXIT Minister, and gets him to admit to we are BREXIT In Name Only until 2021 (and paying 44B for the priviledge and being herded to a bad deal by the Rest of EU).

So many issues with Ford as with Fiat-Chrysler, GM, PSA and VW in the mass market who have got it wrong compared to Nissan-Renault who have got it right.

  1. Late to EV
  2. Have not got value model offering
  3.  Main core models too expensive
  4. Too slow to adapt to issue with pollution and fuel consumption.

Need to start making two cylinder turbo petrol cars with more hybrid parts to them and proper full EVs.  For the sake of the Bridgend engine plant I hope they can change quickly and soon.

This has nothing to do with Brexit, but I think your love of all things Nissan Renault might be misplaced.

“The average real-world [NOx] emissions from our Euro 6 diesels that we've tested is currently 0.399g/km. The Skoda is about a third less than the current average.”

The Renault Megane Experience (1461cc) produces 0.991g/km - 12 times the limit (made in 2016, tested in January 2017)

The Qashqai N-Connecta DCI CVT (1598cc) produces 1.46g of NOx per kilometre. That is more than 18 times Europe's 0.08g/km limit.

All these diesel NOX emmisions are totally unacceptable whether it is 0.4 g/km or 1 gm/km when the legal limit is to be less than 0.1 gm/km and whilst it is realised that  testing in the real world is much different to testing in the lab.   If cars cannot meet the new 0.168g/km, no matter what manufacture it is, then they must be barred from selling those cars.  They can always sell the petrol version (a relative bought the exellent Qasqui 1.2 turbo petrol, great cars, quicker than the 1.6 wiesel and not much different mpg especailly when doing the short ten mile and below runs).

My 900 cc Renault engine is rated at 0.01 g/km for NOX, even on a bad day it is likely to be close to the 0.06 gm/km petrol NOX threshold.

For the sake of the massive death toll the weak UK government needs to get all the polluting diesels off the urban streets with a system as they have in Paris and other cities, it is coming to Birmingham, Leeds, London, Manchester etc and not a moment too soon,

I looked at the BBC link and the research done by "small independent firm, Emissions Analytics, based in the Buckinghamshire village of Stokenchurch"  and having worked in the field of metrology I find their conclusions poorly presented, perhaps a BBC issue of dumbing down.

"until 2019 carmakers will be given leeway of 2.1 times the European limit - diesel cars will be allowed to emit 0.168g/km instead of 0.08g/km.

After that they will be given leeway of 1.5 times the limit. This is partly because there is some variability in the results of the PEMS test."

Get non SCR diesels out of urban environments  ASAP via scrappage and taxation changes that improves NOX air quality to a much better level than we are now for the sake of the thousands of deaths pa.

Undermining NAFTA will ensure American products remain irrelevant to the rest of the world........other than the efforts of one particular Canadian ....how ironic.

The VAG’s cheat blew 35-40 times over the limit .

What they’ve done since then is the least they could do.

All this conjecture of just how bad diesels are is missing the point, diesels are bad in urban environments,  only EVs, the better turbo petrols as acceptable.

Let us hope the UK maintains to LEAF stays in production at Sunderland and we can import them in to the Rest of EU without a 10% import duty for the sake of everyone, and the Zoe make in Dieppe can also come the other way at 0% import duty (would like a bigger version of it though).

LEAF stands for Leading, Environmentally Friendly, Affordable Family Vehicle (Nissan)

Fortunately both Canada and Mexico have deals with the EU which are going great guns.  So many big US companies have plants in Canada and US hopefully they will give Trumpty Trump Trump a lesson in macro economics.
