DV Checked...

Yep, indeed. It does look better but it was really bad between 2k and 3k before, well beneath the range of that plot. But promising. I'd like to understand what the timing chain cover replacement solved, if it is all 100% now.

  • Yes, I made a post similar a while back. Mine has got quite a bit of oil around it, the mounting bolts in particular. I've cleaned it up and waiting to see how quickly it comes back. Mine is an April

  • I don't have VCDS yet but there have been a few posts fairly recently with turbo logging data to capture. You need requested boost  and delivered boost, against engine rpm.. Often use 3rd or 4th gear

  • Cool, I'll do that.  I'll take up the A1 ha.

Yeah I'll go out again tomorrow or over the weekend and get some lower rev results too.

Still seems crappy/laggy if I try to put more than moderate load on at 2k... I'll put throttle on, it'll kind of think about it until 3k then whoosh, off it goes. It feels like turbo lag, but I've been led to believe that that is almost non existent on these due to the small turbo spooler size?

Cart's been back to Shark, and the  issue is still ongoing.  Car will not go above 220bhp on the stage 1 map.  No boost leaks and DV replaced with GFB DV+.

Could I be looking a bad turbo? Bad wastegate/wastegate actuator? Fueling/injector issues?

Anything I can look at guys? Catalytic converter?  Fuel rail pressures?  I'm just stabbing in the dark here.  The more I can do my self before next week (when it goes back to Shark), the cheaper it will be for me.

Spark plugs sorted, how they look now? And concerning oil, how much it takes now? This could fool the ECU ... As you are mapped, quite hard to advice anything else instead of the Tuner. If you had original software, I would ask dealer concerning update for engine ECU, seen CCTA engines in States had quite a few updates solving hesitation problems.

Apparently their map uses the latest software, but I'll mention it again to them. I'll try and check the plugs again tomorrow.

Oil usage is still higher than usual, but within spec I believe. About 1500 miles to get minimum on the dipstick

Well, you are still above VAG limit, which is 0,5l on 621miles (older MPI had even 1l allowed on same distance), but not very far from it, from max to min on dipstick is 1l.

By my reading it is too much, all gets affected, so it can has influence on how engine runs.

Has Shark foud anything this week?

Nope. They've replaced N75 as I asked them to, and it has not yet fixed the issue.  They've said that the current map is pulling nicely on the dyno, but it is still not where they want it to be, and the car is still under boosting.   I've been informed that their next port of call is to remove the turbo, send it off for inspection.

Honestly, that is going to give me no change of a grand so I'm waiting on a phone call to discuss paying them for their work so far, requesting a refund, and calling it a day.  They've worked hard recently to get it sorted, but it's hit a point where enough is enough.  It's obviously not their fault that my car has a fault; it was there before I had it mapped, I just didn't fully appreciate the severity, but I hope they understand that I cannot enjoy the map with the car as, nor can I afford to keep throwing hundred pound notes at it, and so asking for a refund isn't unreasonable.  I may get this issue fixed, but then what's next?  Piston rings? Timing chain round 2?  As much as I've loved the car and doing more and more DIY it has sadly become a money pit.

I think it's time I just get rid of the map and start looking to replace the car over the next 6 months... I think I'll pull off the R8 red coils (~2k miles old), and the DV+, the MFSW (and control board) and sell them and maybe look at MK3 VRS on PCP etc.  I can't afford to buy a new car as I've not been putting money aside for a car. Well I have, but not with the intention of using it for a car ha.

Well, just to confirm, I've given up now.  The car is still lovely to drive, and certainly isn't 'broken', but the stutter is obviously stopping the car from fully realising the stage 1 map. It's probably a dead easy fix, but I've spent too much now to throw any more at the car.  I'll be listing it for sale soon at a reasonable price considering the issues, and have ordered a 530e M Sport from my work's salary sacrifice scheme.  Here's to two years hassle free motoring...

Any more joy on this issue? My VRS is doing the same. Changed the DV and added the DV+ but no joy :(

I've been having the same issue for a while now  - having a flatspot/hesitation from 2500 - 3300 rpm whilst in 3rd/4th gear trying to accelerate .

Mines is tuned to stage 3 by Shark and runs fine.

Recently I've changed the sparkplugs and bought some R8 coilpacks due to a misfire, which didn't make a difference to the issue however when I changed the filter on my ITG Maxogen that seemed to improve it.

otherwise at any other RPM range the car pulls like a train.
