Replace Alternator Pulley on Skoda Fabia mk1 2004 1.4tdi

Featured Replies

Hi all,

hoping someone can help me out here. I need to replace the alternator pulley on my Skoda Fabia mk1 1.4tdi 2004 car .. but I'm a little confused as to the actual part I need.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get the correct part and the tool required to remove the old pulley.

I've been in contact with one place and they are quoting me around £80.00 for the pulley, and that just doesn't seem right ... especially when I have seen pulleys that say they will fit my car, on ebay for around £25.00

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

You need a special tool and an impact ratchet. Lot easier and cheaper to replace alternator if you don't have the tools.

The pulley on my VRS cost about £30 from darkside.

I did this job recently on my Fab. I did not need an impact wrench. I purchased an alternator pulley removal tool. I did a Google search for one that fitted my car. It cost around £12. Don't make the mistake I made by making sure you get the correct one that fits the end of the alternator shaft (some shafts have a female splines, some have a female Torx - you can only check by looking, you might need a mirror!).  The pulley cost about £24 from GSF. They are available from many online sources - just enter your reg number to ensure you get the right one.

I took my alternator off the car. It was alot easier to counter hold the shaft whilst unscrewing the pulley. But if you are not a weed like me you might be able to do it on the car if you can make enough clearance for the tool in front of the alternator (or find a friend).
