Why does it have to be dsg Karl , Evo ran a dsg vRS long term and they said it was really the photographers car not an evo car , whist in for service they had the petrol as a courtesy car and they said now that's more like it . Gave you thought about leasing ? Neighbour is changing his gtd golf for a golf R as it's cheaper per month !

Just prefer DSG Alan, I drive a manual van all week now so dsg on the weekends is nicer to drive.

Golf R is a little out of my price range unfortunately.

Very true - the Golf R deals were tempting - even for me..... but it was the outgoing model and spec that was heavily reduced.

You do like your DSG, i always notice the change in your drivig style from van to vRS

Anyway - i think the original question TDI vs TSI is sorted; DSG wasnt the issue or decision.

Fingers crossed something comes up soon buddy!!

Let me know if you get the chance of a test drive.... i'll come along...

I do like the Golf R - just a little out of my price range.. plus, where I park over night I can't see it being there long with the amount going missing.

TSI seems the way to go for sure. The DSG is a no brainer for me. Great to drive and fun on the paddles when used.

I have a friend looking for one for me from Skoda wakefeild so hopefully have one before long. More than welcome to come along for the TD mate! I'll keep you posted.

I'd have a r estate in a heartbeat. In fact I had a wander round my dealer last week. When I bought the Skoda I wanted a gti but couldn't afford it but it really looks like the glut of r on the market has devalued both models somewhat as essentially, for a base model gti with a couple of thousand on the clock is 20k now. And the r is between 25 and thirty. I did see 2 r hatches that looked dead similar in age and mileage (again sub6k) but they were 4 grand different price wise.

They also had a couple of 66 plate r estates around 29k.

Thanks for your input guys. I don't tend to buy cars based on Mpg. As long as they make new smile & I can have fun that's me sold!

I'll keep my eyes out for a TSI estate.

They're quite rare by the looks of it, especially at the 15/17k mark.

Hey Karl - maybe to help focus the thread a bit on what you want and can afford....

If i read this post quoted above, correctly..... £15-17k is your planned budget?

That's correct. 15/16k is best.. 17k at a push. All depends on the finance options Skoda can offer me.

If I spend anymore I fear my wife may have something to say haha.

Mine wasn't an estate, but I picked up my TSI 220 DSG hatch with plenty of options (winter pack, columbus, canton, park assist, front assist, crew protection and more) at 3 years old with 15k on clock, for 14k Approved Used. Had to travel to the South East mind, but was worth it!

15/16k should be enough if you hold out for the right one to come up, TSIs are quite rare compared to the diesel on the used market.

But it's worth it...............

With a bit of discount we paid approx. £4.6 more than a loaded vRS 230 wagon, & that's with £8K's worth of options on the Golf.

Inside it's a nicer place to be than the Octy too & just big enough for our needs, but I'm still keeping the Superb around for when we do need a bigger car.

Are you comparing a negotiated discount on the Golf Vs Octavia list price?

Golfs R DSG estates are available on PCH for around £260 with £2300 deposit for 24 months, 5k miles pa at the moment. So £8500 for 2 years motoring.

Yes, the best Carwow price for a vRS 230 estate (dealer in Newcastle) & the best price we could find from a VW dealer for the R.

That's a low mileage limit. We are "Senior Citizens" unlike most of you lot & we are "income-poor", so leasing &/or borrowing money isn't for us, but there is a bit of spare cash in the piggy bank for fun stuff.

Better we spend it now on ourselves, & while we are still allowed to drive rather, than leave it to her kids!

They will get at least some of the value of the house when we do drop dead & they're old enough (40's) not to need our pennies anymore.

Whoops, both cars were quoted at a discount............
