Disc rear axle swap

Featured Replies

I've been looking at fitting a disc rear axle and not sure what fits.

I've seen brimma fitted an Ibiza rear axle but was wider than standard so don't really want the wheels sticking out wider, I assume he's fitted the newer 2010+ ibiza axle that doesn't actually match the spec of the Fabia

I've got the part number I need to check "6Q0500051AS"

That number matches...

2000 - 2015 Skoda Fabia

2007 - 2014 VW Polo

2002 - 2010 Seat Ibiza (then wider axle 2010 +)

But everyone I ask says MK1 VRS axle won't fit.

So what's anyone els done?

What are you fitting it too a post 2010 face lift Fabia?

seat ibiza changed 2009 and 2013 but the disc brakes and axles were the same as a Fabia with discs from 2010 are they not?

Is that keeping the stock axle?

From that site it shows changing drums to discs, still want to get a good look at my car to see if this would fit.

Apparently not, the early mk5 (new shape) from 2008 to late 2010 have a different axle to 2010 till 2014

A 2013 Monte Carlo.

Are you speaking Ibiza Twincharger axles? Check them out and see what change happened in 2010. I do not believe any change did.

Scroll down and see what years it fits

6R0500051C Is the part number for the 2010 onwards Ibiza rear axle which also matches the Audi A1 (again doesn't match Fabias)

6Q0500051AS Is 2008 - 2010

And yes the twincharger

You can't argue with parts lists, I know of at least 2 rear end vRS with rear end rebuilds which used front end Smash Cupra. No idea what change happened when the Audi A1 185ps were launched in 2011. The sister cars came with 215 tyres instead of 205,s. Check out the, track width of the 5 twincharger models sold in the UK

Seat, Skoda hatch and estate, VW,and Audi

PS sharkrider or some one can tell you when there were bush changes with the vRS

Your right about the tyre change around the same time, they also changed wheel sizes around then which would also make sense with the wider different axle.

IMO a MK1 VRS axle would fit a MK2 Monte Carlo no problem

I've got a disc braked ibiza 6l axle sat on the shed floor if you need any measurements

What year car did it come from?

That could be handy

Doesn't the Roomster have a wider rear track and discs?

2002 I think, it was a cordoba, but I measured it against my ibiza one at the time and it was the same, I've just been too lazy to fit it (bought it because it's got polybushes in).

Can anyone who's done this conversion give me some feedback please. Wanting to know if you've noticed any improvement in braking after swapping the drums to discs? I've got chance of a rear axle for SWMBO's Fabia, and personally think rear discs perform better generally, but want to hear actual like-for-like reviews. Not planning on doing it for the aesthetics, but for improved performance/safety.

Cheers!
