Unless you have a big turbo then the misery of a solid flywheel is to be avoided, just replace the whole lot with a Sachs kit and new Sachs DMF. Define easy, the gearbox has to come off, the crank sensor by itself is very easy.

Easy is not a word I'd use to describe a clutch change, having just done the missus's car (my first time).

Actually the clutch change itself is very easy, but getting the gearbox out and back in is a massive pain when done on the drive.

I was thinking of luk clutch kit. Ile use the ramps in work to do I think. Yeah bet its a pain to do on floor. Did u change crank sensor too. Its behind flywheel. Stupied idea to put it there. It Sachs a good make?

Agree with just a sachs clutch and DMF kit. It will be a pig to do without a ramp and maybe some help. The 6 speed box is a heavy old lump.

With a lift, a support beam and a gearbox jack I would characterise it as an easy job, yes. Sachs are better than LUK in my opinion.

Crank sensor behind the flywheel?

As above the 6 speed is very heavy and awkward to get out of the Fabias small bay.

If you do decide to go SMF don't go for a lightweight one,the rattle is vile

Just adding it up I have done gearbox out 6 times, I think its a pain in the butt job, as coskev says the gearbox is very heavy (I use an engine hoist to take the weight) and lower the front sub frame to make more clearance room or the box is very hard to get in and out.

I also find the flywheel bolt heads very shallow which makes it hard to get a good clean pull on the bar when doing them up.

Thank you for all the info.ile use a Sachs kit there bout 350 all In. And ile do it on a ramp make it bit easyer

Wanting to jump on this thread, I've recently purchased a vrs running 180bhp with proof but the clutch is slipping and I thought it would be a good idea change the flywheel at same time. With those with experience will a dual and say Sachs clutch be adequate for this increase in power or should single fly be the way to go? Thanks in advance

Standard setup is fine for your power.

False economy to change the clutch and leave a used DMF in,a full kit with flywheel is not stupid money :)

Thanks sepulchrave!

£301 including slave cylinder and flywheel/clutch bolts:

Althought the seller is techniclutch its just a brand new sachs clutch not one of their dodgy 'performance clutches', I have fitted one of these and it was best value for sachs we could find.

Luke6n - if you are sticking with just a remap and not to aggressive on the clutch I think the sachs setup with DMF would be fine, if you have further plans for more power or your brutal with the clutch I would consider other options rather than fitting a standard clutch and having to change it again later on.

Avoid Techniclutch!!

As I said above:

Personally I don't see the issue from buying a new sealed in the box sachs clutch from them, the one we ordered was delivered quickly with no issues.

I still wouldn't - even if it appears to be a sealed box. If there is a warranty issue, you will be chasing them for months, all of the major manufacturers are aware of them, and none of them will honour any warranty parts returned via Techniclutch as they don't buy new clutches from them directly. Trading standards in Blackpool are aware of them, and there have been numerous claims via small claims court - they will always blame warranty claims on contamination or incorrect fitting.

Duck - yeah plan is just to stick with the current map and keep it a sensible daily driver. As long as the standard setup can take some shoe at this power for reasonable amount of time/miles I'd be happy.

I was also looking at the setup of g60 flywheel and Vr6 clutch as i know this is quite a popular option on pd engines with increased power.

how hard is the clutch to do i see you recently did one.if i get ramps is it really a diy job?i found replacing a turbo was bordering on my limits lol

From what you say, I would say "get it done by someone else".

That ^^^

I'm pretty competent around things like brakes and suspension and what have you but a clutch? Get someone else in lol

for future anyway hopefully not for a while .running 190 bhp on standard clutch power curve is high up rev range so heres hoping

It's the torque that'll kill a clutch more than the actual power.

what clutch kit would you recommend if it does go?? and a rough price for the kit if you know
