I’ve been in the Kodiaq club for a week Today after adding 95k miles to a Yeti. Really enjoying the extra refinement and new toys.

It’s petrol blue with cream interior featuring 4x4 190 Diesel Kodiaq Edition (MY17) with DCC, DSG with paddles, ACC, LKA, 360 Cameras, 7 seats (4 heated, 2 ventilated), heated wheel, pano roof, personalisation, park assist, Canton, rear blinds & an aftermarket towbar!

In awe of the ACC setup, spent Wednesday queuing on the 50 section on the M4 near Reading and actually enjoyed it as the car edged forwards by itself and I played with the radio, settings, mood lighting, seating setup etc etc

happy days.

I miss some of the comfort details, existing in my old Superb (2012): interior lights (I cannot imagine the extra costs that Skoda would have had to support to include ceiling lights - cat-eye, central console storage light, door handles, upper storage compartment, and so on), rain sensor to close the door windows, folding mirrors through the key, illuminated air controls...

For a +35k euros, these missing items, that have already been invented&implemented in a 7 years old model!, make me sad.

I'm not sure on non-UK spec cars but almost everything you mention is on my own MY20 kodiaq sportline as standard and will be on the SEL and also models above as well (not sure on the rain sensing window closure...) but otherwise all is there.

I don’t think so. My SEL lacks the discreet lights in the ceiling that provide continuous ambient lighting of the cockpit at night. It also lacks illumination of the air vents, door handles and top glove box.

I had some of those features on a base model Vauxhall Vectra 15 years ago, so it’s a bit sad that a near top end Kodiaq lacks them.

The light pack is an option on the SEL. We have it. It’s not the same thing. You don’t get low power ambient leds in the ceiling. Just coloured lights in the door trim and LED foot well lighting.

There are some other things I forgot to mention... the veeeery low quality gear lever (DSG), with its plastic lever and plastic/rubber finish, that looks very cheap, below Kodi's price range; on the other side, there are the buttons under the multimedia screen, all being cheap plastic made of (I have seen many other cheaper cars, below 20k, with better quality finishing...).

To be fair to the kodiaq, they only direct competitors it has at this price point are its 2 sisters (tiguan allspace and tarraco) neither of which are any better quality. At similar money there are things like kia sorento/hyundai santa fe. Neither of which are any better either.

Just out of curiosity what other sub 20k new cars are better quality? (I'd like to know what I'm missing?) In my experience unless you are spending serious money, all brands are made down to a price. If you wish to see poor quality for the money might I direct you to the lr discovery sport...

My previous car is a 2012 Superb, not the top level version. Better finishing all over the interior.

My wife's car is a Citroen C4, 17k when new, in 2011. Better finishing.

When I say ”finishing”, I mean the feeling when touching all the commands in the car: door levers, the wheel with all its buttons and levers, edges of all interior elements, handbrake, and so on....

If moving upward, to 28-32k, check Peugeot 3008, for instance.

Discovery Sport was my initial choice, but I had to let it go.

Disco sport is terrible for the price point.

It was a C4 grand Picasso (2015 vintage) that I traded in for my own kodiaq. Definitely would say the Skoda is a long way ahead in every measure except in the satnav, citroen one was better. Skoda is definitely made down to a price but much better than citroen, the citroen was a fine family bus, just not a great car.
