Anyone remaped a 1.8tsi?

Featured Replies

Hi there.

Was in contact with a firm who does remaps, and they recomended a remap with 220hp / 350nm for my 1.8tsi 4x4.

So Im curious if anyone has remaped their tsi? If yes, how big was the difference?

On paper its the same power as the vrs, only with 4x4, so it should be quite nippy.

And yes, I do know about the potential warranty issues, so I might postpone it untill the warranty draws towards the end. Time will tell

DTUK do a tuning box if warranty is an issue

Yeah I know about tuning boxes, but I would think its a good idea to have the DSG remapped aswell?

A remap won't do a thing to the DSG, unless you are getting DSG software upgrades also - they are two separate things.

I'm thinking about the same thing with mine.

A friend of mine has remapped his and it is quicker 0-100km/h than two 220hp RS he has tested against.

200hk + and frontwheel drive is often a waste.

4x4 and power is perfect :-)

Software upgrade to the DSG is included, that's why I think a tuning box is out of the question.

And as norsko says,  I think it will be fast. At least from a standing start it will take down some slightly faster cars.

If remaping the DSG, do it to Sport Mode as the car can not start in Sport Mode therefore, won't be seen during service/warranty work at the dealers

Not sure why you would bother though, or why you'd be concerned? I run a tuning box with DSG, and it makes absolutely no difference to how the gearbox works at all - it remains super smooth.

When people change the DSG software, it's generally to stop it auto changing up when hitting the limiter, and allowing greater control when wanting to manually downshift, for example with track use.

I'd question what you're actually getting for your money, and just opt for a remap on its own...unless of course you're planning on taking your car to the track!

The problem I find with the DSG and the 1.8 is that it does not make best use of the engine characteristics and tends to put the box in too low a gear for me, especially in the lower rev ranges. It also keeps it in a low gear in the higher ranges keeping the revs high where the IS12 tends to run out of steam. The IS12 is very good lower down but that is not were the box wants to keep it.

I use manual more and more these days even just to stop the DSG hunting through gears. I would find a DSG remap useful and mine goes nowhere near a track.

An engine remap may help a bit but it is not going to change the characteristics of the IS12.

I have always thought the IS20 would be a good useable match for the 1.8 but there is only one place I have seen with any sort of map for that. The same place has done an IS12 to IS38 but I think that would be too much and could spoil the car, killing its usability.

Remapped 1.8 TSI, amongst other modifications

That Yeti goes a long way to show what is possible and still keep it usable.

He went with the K04 but found he lost a bit of the low end. The K04 seems to sit between the IS20 and IS38 for capacity which makes me think the IS20 off the vRS or GTi would be a good match. It should sort out the top end without losing the benefit of the smaller turbo lower down. Should be a simple bolt on bolt off job if you can sort the map.

Like these

Just need to find someone doing an IS38 upgrade on a vRS or GTi - anyone:devil:

Problem is the Gen3 engine on the Octy has quite a few differences to the Gen1 and Gen2 of the Yeti. For experience of the Gen3 1.8 engine you are looking at people that play with Audi or Seat
