Crazy Fuel Consumption 1.6TDi Elegance 13plate

Featured Replies

You would be much better spending that on £22 of diesel and driving,

or change the oil and filter and keep driving another few weeks and see if you can improve on the MPG.

  • If I can be honest, if I were you I would be more concerned with driving along dual carriageways and motorways at 50mph than my fuel consumption. At best you will cause some congestion around you

Thanks for that.. did you use it? does it really work? is it fuel additive or oil additive?

Its a fuel additive and yes I have used it before and helps to keep the fuel system clean.

Work? Not sure what you are expecting. Loads of people on here have said your mpg is fine.

See, I told you guys. this car is not giving enough MPG that anyone can expect it from. Out of those 500 miles almost 400miels were long stretch motorway miles. I am thinking, shall i take it to Halfords autocentre for 'fuel system cleaning service (Cost £35)'. Does anyone know if it is worth the money. I have already booked my car for Brake4Life transfer over..so i can ask them for the service if it is worth.

Of you're so sure there's something actually wrong with the car why don't you just book it into a Skoda dealership and allow them to inspect the car.

taking your car to Halford for them to tap it with a screwdriver is doing nothing but wasting time and money.

Clearly you're unhappy so let someone look at it who is most likely to find a fault. Although personally I think it's not a problem with the car but with the driver

You could but on the £35 fuel service we just check the tyre pressures are set correctly, that the brake's are free, all wheel bearings are free from wear and aren't rumbling or noisey, and then put a fuel cleaner in. The fuel service plus get's an oil and filter change on top of that, this is the one i would go for.

Be aware the Brake4life will only transfer over if you have more the 2mm of brake pads left on the front and rear and the discs are above minimum manufactures spec, if they aren't then it won't transfer over unless you have the work carried out, and the brakes 4 life DOES NOT COVER DISC'S only the pads.

If you're now wondering i work for Halford's Autocentre as MOT tester/technician, so carry out a fair few of these services. so for the comment about Tapping a screw driver and saying nothings wrong, we do a huge amount more then that. Automass i know it wasn't you who said it.

I knew Ju1ian1001 you will come back and have your say said. I also didn't believe about Tapping a screw things. but anyway, thanks for the advice, at least now i know what does fuel service mean? i'll better buy that Archoil AR6400D what wiilydog advised when tank will be half way. Oil was changed recently and i can see its pretty clean.

Thanks for the info about Brake4Life as well..but my local autocentre's people are very weird. when i took my last car (which came with brake4life for all four brake pads) for the transfer of the ownership, they refused me saying that brake4life can be transferable to car only but not people. so that means the guy who had this he can have it transferred to his new car. On the leaflet its clearly states that someone can transfer their warranty to new owner as well..anyway, after having previous owner spoken to them they agreed to do the process of transfer over. but when again i went to that autocentre few weeks ago to have my same car brakes inspected there were couple of new guys and they started saying the same thing that brakes4life can not be transferable...i was so frustrated that i had go through the same thing again and again..finally i took a leaflet and showed it to them and they were reluctantly agreed to inspect the car's brake and the report they gave me was horrendous (brake pads have increased from 7mm to 9mm for front 2 and rear 2 were still 7mm as they were 15k miles ago).

Lets see what they say tomorrow. sorry this is bit irrelevant of the topic but i couldn't help.

I think this discussion has gone far as as it can. After eight pages it rivals the (wind up?) efforts of member Laureen1979 in the Octavia 2 forum discussing faint brake noises, slight overfill of oil etc.

Sorry for that. i didn't mean to go this thread endless. I just felt that consumption was not right..that's all it was about.

I can't for the life of me work out why anyone would pay that amount for a fuel additive in the vague hope of improving mpg slightly, yet skimp by lobbing £45 a corner 'supergriplesswonderjobby' tyres on their car...:D

I don't wanna go argument about the tyres here now..i am quite happy with the tyres at least they are better than the previous unevenly worn so called branded (Michelin and hankook) tyres.

Sorry OTT.

Nowt wrong with those tyres, and they might be inexpensive but that means nothing as Skoda fit some rather crap ECO tyres with Famous Brand names and rubbish grip / traction.

They are inexpensive to VW Group, not as you try replacing them like for like, cheap in huge bulk to the Manufacturers because tyre manufacturers know that many owners will replace tyres with what was OEM.

There are Far Eastern and Asian companies that can make good tyres that are inexpensive, after all the Big Names can have factories there.

What colour is your oil now???

When you say you "can see its pretty clean", do you mean it is still treacle coloured??? :wondering:

I've had my 2015 Estate 1.6 DSG for 7 days, I've driven 800miles, filled up 3 times and am now averaging 54.8MPG on supermarket fuel, tank range is showing at 520miles when I fill up, and I'm expecting both of these figures to improve (not massively) over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for sharing this Miz. Even though my car is pretty new (3years and 3months) but mileage wise its old, 63.5k on the clock.

Mine is just under 2 years old, and has 35k on the clock, but remember I can get good figures because I do long journeys and am not rushing.

Guys, I needed 42liters to fill the fuel tank (if you check few post above). i meant after 42 litres automatically cut off cut off. is this normal? as far as i know the capacity is 50liters and i got impression that some body even can fill the tank up to 55 litres when auto cut off cuts off. what is your view about it?

i know when low fuel warning sign comes on that means 6 litres are there..but i topped up when it was around 3litres left in the tank..so i guess it was just 45lietres capacity.

3000 miles on clock and my range has improved by about 50 miles. 20170315_103418-1.jpgimage hosting 20mb

How many litres of fuel can you put in the tank as you are saying that Ranges shows 595miles. I put 42liters when auto cut off cuts off.

I also stopped filling once I hit the auto click off although will usually round up to the next pound. So say it clicked of at £48.20 I will pull the nozzle out slightly and fill it to £49.

Seriously @automass?

The amount of fuel you'll get in will depend on how much is left. The fuel gauge and 'fill up now' light are NOT accurate, they are solely to give a rough indication of how much fuel you have. 42L is a completely normal full up.

Just enjoy your car or buy something you can enjoy...

Thanks for your chip in..but as I explained, i didn't just top up as warning light showed up..I topped up when the indicator hand was pointing to the three dots on the red zone which gave me idea of 3(maximum) litres of fuel left in the tank..anyway, i am happy knowing that 42litres filling the tank is quite normal..i guess everybody who has 50litres of tank is getting same amount of fuel.

Common guys, I am talking about fuel tank capacity here...don't be such a d....if u don't wanna share info..

Give it some time, fill the tank a few times and see,

your car seems to be unusual, maybe there is a few kilo of heroin secreted in the tank or gold bars taking up space.

You maybe bought a car from a Car Supermarket that actually is worth more than you paid for it.

Might answer for all that carry on when you first got it, in out, faulty filler etc.

Octavia used for Channel Ferry Crossings rather than Fiat Multipla or Ford Galaxy's.
