Pheasant 0 Skoda 1

Featured Replies

Doing 60mph down an A road, pheasant appeared from nowhere and smashed the front grill, didn't have time avoid it unfortunately.

I'm assuming this part is fairly easy to replace?

Found a few similar threads, crap! I'll see if I can get hold of the grill and replace myself, f**k paying Skoda to replace the whole front end

Might as well give the engine bay a nice spruce up too ;)

I reckon you would have got the 'pheasant plucker' rhyme wrong repeatedly at the time.

Ha, I thought someone might say that! Since moving to the countryside it's virtually impossible to keep the car clean.

Cost to fix pheasant £0, cost to fix octavia £xxx?

Actual score...

Pheasant 1

Octavia.    0

Had this happen on the M6 in my Leon, cracked a tiny bit off the front grill, the dealer didnt spot it on trade in luckily!

Depends if the pheasant ends up in the oven.....

Ha ha! Still zero £ to the pheasant, more cost to octavia owner....

Shouldnt joke really, changing those can be a complete nighmare so lets not make fowl of the situation.

You might be lucky on eBay. Or fit the Superskoda one.

Is pheasant for sale?

Good luck. I was in a similar situation to you, albeit with a deer.

Skoda rather wisely decided to change the removable grill to a fully integrated plastic welded one sometime in 2015. Plonkers.

I was lucky, found a pre-2015 grill with the Scout badge on eBay that a local body shop was able to properly attach back to the intact bumper.

Pheasant dead 0

Octavia alive but damaged 1

That was my thought process, really should have collected it and cooked in the Aga

I am going to call Skoda this morning to see if they sell the grill separate, I think I know the answer already. Yep, comes as part of the front bumper, £380 unpainted!

I would dearly like to find the above funny but as last Thursday a pheasant ran out on the A1 while I was doing 70, I now have an Estate with a missing ACC cover, smashed lower grille and numerous errors on scanning ACC at dealers.

Anyone got suitable lowe grills and ACC cover knocking about?

Dealers tell me they don't have equipment to test / reset ACC radar, will ODB2 do it?

image.jpg

Vent grill for vehicles with ACC: 5E0853677 G or 5E0853677 H (VRS)

Trim for models with ACC: 5E0853631 or 5E0853631 A (VRS)

Repair set for radar sensor: 5G0998561

I had the same accident with mine when it was 3 weeks old. I just bought the parts above at my Skoda dealer and had them to fit it. My radar sensor was loose but the sensor was OK, and after they fitted new clips (repair set) it start to work again without any adjustment. It cost me about 160 £, parts and work included.

It is very easy to do this your self and see if the errors dissapear

Thank you very much Norsko much appreciated.

Crumbs, had a friend with a mk1 Fabia VRS once, ran into a pheasant, it ended up in the lower bumper scoop. Luckily the plastic grille popped back on, and the pheasant was laid out across it - though none of us had the stomach to pluck and gut it, sadly....

Lifes is too short to pluck a pheasant.

Lay it out on it's back, wings spread, head facing away from you.

Stand on wings where they join the body

Grab the birds feet (careful with its spurs!)

Stand up and pull straight up.

There will be pressure but you'll feel it start to give and eventually you will pull the guts, neck, head and all of the skin away leaving you with full body on the floor just needing the wings to be cut off and the feet, intestines neck nad head neatly in your hands.

Dispose of the pipework

Cut the wings off the body

Sorted.

Tis an educational place full of pheasant pluckers :D

I'm assuming you haven't hit a pheasant at 70mph to consider  the need for plucking.

There was no trace of bird as such just lots of feathers, giblets and a smell of singed excrement (some the pheasants and probably a little of mine when assessing the damage).
