Mk3 Octavia Driver side Lower dash removal

Featured Replies

Has anyone a how-to on removing the driver side lower dash below the main light switch and to the right of the steering wheel.  I need to gain access to the brake switch and also be able to work on the connections on the OBD2 test plug.  looking up from underneath the driver footwell, there is a plate assembly (below the steering column) that I need to remove to see where the brake switch is located. I am fitting a cruise control and need access to the switch to pick up a signal and also have to pick up the +ve gnd and CANBUS connections off the test socket.

The switch isn't under there, it's in the master cylinder.

The panel is a knee airbag

Cruise control doesn't require any wires running to the switch, only 1 signal wire to the wiring blocks in the passenger front footwell from the steering column control module.

Thanks for the quick reply.  The cruise unit I want to fit is a Conrad Anderson retro fit unit and they note their unit requires a brake signal, I just assumed it would be taken from the brake switch.  Possibly, I have interpreted their description wrongly. Reading their information again it seems all the data needed is picked up from the Canbus connections. So all I need to do is release and remove the  knee-trim( is this the Air Bag )  the steering column cowling and release the Canbus test plug to allow soldering to the necessary connection pins  (signals).

If you're considering the one off their website for over £300 (with an additional £150 fitting charge!?!) you might be best contacting your local skoda dealer, it's only £299 fitted...

i like the bit on their website in the FAQ section that says "will this kit affect my warranty? - no" I'm afraid that soldering onto connections that could possibly result in communication errors will almost certainly void any part of a claim on that system and the VW group don't condone the use of soldered connections on any wiring on their vehicles.

A thread revival.

my panel got damaged by the previous owner who’d had an aftermarket switch installed and I want to replace it
