Don't go breaking your wing mirror

Featured Replies

Just had a quote to fix the wing mirror. Make sure you're sitting down before looking at the price.

Note the the cost of the glass. Guess my wife better think twice before ****ting the other one.

Surely it was an April Fools ?

Crazy.

Nope. Dead serious. £285 for the glass alone. The rest of it is quite reasonable. £176 for the plastic rear door handle cover that also got scratched is pretty steep too.

This would fit though, right?

If the picture of the mirror on the ebay ad is correct, then no. Looks totally different. Take time to shop around, another Forum member may be able to suggest another company that do compatable parts.

Looks a Mk2 mirror to me, certainly not Mk3.

Suspect as they are not only heated but also dimming then the cost is greatly increased.

Try the Briskoda Parts service on here (through Listers) or Skodaparts.com

BMW charge up to £1,200 for an X5 heated and dimming mirror!  Totally unjustifiable.  There was a phase where Mark 1 X5's were having mirrors stolen to order because the Dealer price was so high.  How on earth they come up with £300 for just the glass is beyond me.  I mean it's not as if they are made in small numbers which might be a justification.

many years ago I used this site https://www.wingmirrorman.co.uk/ when someone nicked the glass out of my VW Passat. Supplied exactly what I needed quickly and in the end the mirror outlived the car/

Wing mirror on the passenger side isn't compulsory, is it? Smash the rest off with a big hammer and gaffer-tape the hole over?

Charge her £20 for your efforts.

ouch.. but guess when you have lane assit.. dimmer, heat. LED bulbs etc etc.. it aint going to be cheap

Some Skoda mirrors (just a glass) cost £350+ so....

When I was riding my bike through London rush hour traffic, I whacked the near side wing mirror on a Volvo estate. Against my better judgement, I stopped. We exchanged addresses and I got a bill:

£60. The mirror was cracked, but no damage to the "hood". Sometimes, you get off light...

Why do we still call it a "wing" mirror?

Mirrors haven't been fitted to cars front wings (yes there are still some amongst us who DO remember them fitted there & I for one are one of them) since around the mid 1970's when the law changed regarding the fitting of exterior rear view mirrors, no the law didn't state that they now had to be fitted on the DOORS, merely that they had to be adjustable from INSIDE the car!

& yes, self dipping ones are eye wateringly expensive!
