Floor mounted accelerator pedal?

Featured Replies

Hi, as I'm getting used to my 1.6SE l DSG Estate, I'm finding that the accelerator pedal is not a patch on the one that was fitted to my previous car. That was a Mk 5 WV Golf GTs 140 2.0TDI.

I have been wondering if it is a possibility to swap the suspended Skoda OEM accelerator for the VW Golf [Mk5] floor mounted accelerator pedal? I seem to be experiencing some pedal hesitation/stickiness when driving.

I'm using the Eco mode most of the time but when I need that bit more rapid movement I click the lever back to activate sport mode, then engage Eco once I'm past the obstacle.

I have had a bit of a search and it seems like the Octavia Mk2 had a floor mounted pedal? I cant find any info on this though.

Yes, mk2 Octy accelerator pedal is floor mounted. Probably same part that was in your golf.  In the vRS and the Scout the pedal had a metal finish with rubber inserts. In other models I think it was just rubber.

It is not that it is floor mounted or top mounted, it is the fact that Skoda accelerators have this 'hesitation' built into the 'fly-by-wire' throttle.

You may go to the bother of changing the throttle only to find it acts the same

If you know someone with VCDS you can try the mod that tells the car it is an Audi. That improves things on some. Or get a DTUK peddle box. Plenty of advice on this if you do a quick search.

Thanks for the reply, i had seen the other post regarding the mod to basically con the car into thinking it's an Audi to remove the hesitation. I'll have to investigate this further, i have an obdeleven on order, i wonder if this will be able to change the settings

The audi pedal setup doesn't work for many

DTUK's pedalbox works

I'm going to have a look into one of these. But I have noticed a physical restriction today driving up to the lakes. When I go to stamp on the accelerator pedal as it goes right down it is giving me the feeling like it's catching something then going past it. Really strange, I'll have to get me head under the dash to take a look (when stationary obviously) ha ha.

Hopefully it's nothing to serious going on under there?

My obdeleven arrived just before I left, so I'll be having a look see with that this next week.

That catching is supposed to be there, if the cars were fitted with a speed limiter as well as cruise control then when in limit mode you wanted to over ride this temporarily then you press the accelerator past the catch all the way to the floor, then when you ease back off and dip below the set limited speed the limiter kicks back in again. Its actually really annoying feature if you don't have a speed limiter on your cruise which I think most octys don't have a speed limiter.

Yep, your right there, it is really annoying. Mine has cruise control, but I'm not aware of it having a limiter on it?

Fit the pedalbox & you'll NEVER go near the limiter again, don't need to

I think I will have to. Will I need to inform my insurance company once it's fitted?

You ought to.

I'm buying a pedal box from DTUK today for the same reason. I spoke with Admiral Insurance this week, and they class the pedal box as a Transmission Modification. Not toooooo bad though as it only adds £19 to the annual premium.

Iirc my renewal is due in July or August, I might leave it till then. But there again I may as well phone them to find out. It may not alter anything and I won't have to wait that way

That's depressing to say the least, suggests like VAG are prepared to intentionally sabotage the performance of a Skoda but not an Audi - An odd bit of product differentiation which unlike the others can't even save them any money. Then again it does it's job, makes the Audi just that little bit more desirable than the Skoda, might just persuade a few more folk to shell out the extra cash for the 'premium' brand.
