Has anyone fitted a intercooler further forward by the crash bar as appose to sandwiching the intercooler between the rad and aircon.

 

I have a facelift Octavia Mk2 I've been looking at various intercooler options. All of the options I've looked at sandwich the intercooler in the standard location.

 

Has anyone done anything different and if they have are there any threads/pictures about as searches have returned nothing.

There's nowhere forward of the AC to fit another FMIC unless you go with a twintercooler or do some major structural mods or remove the smash panel permanently.  I'm not sure about the UK but down here, if you remove a "safety device" like the smash panel & then have an accident where somebody is injured because you modified a "safety device" then you are in deep poo.

 

If you aren't running the AC then the FMIC will be getting cool air.

 

A good (and cheap) mod is to plug up all the gaps around the AC/FMIC/Rad package to force all the air through the three coolers rather than having it leak around the edges.

 

You can still fit a significantly bigger FMIC and retain the original fitment position.

Water meth would be a better option for drastically lowering intake temps...

 

And will clean the intake to boot...
