Powersteering warning light

Featured Replies

Hello, the other day i was changing tyres. The "summer tyres" was put on and the next day the car wouldnt start. The red power steering symbol was displayed on the dash and there was the clicking sound from the engine compartment, no joy..

"Contact the dealer" was also displayed.

I have checked that no wires or any contacts have been disturbed as i had to remove the front wheels again just to be sure.

There are obviously some sensor or failure that i cannot locate. Any advice or tips would be apreciated.

On hydraulic power steering systems, a common reason for the warning light to illuminate is low power steering fluid. You should pull over if you see this light turn on and check the fluid level immediately. Top it off with the correct fluid type and the light should turn off.

Keep in mind that low fluid means a leak is present that needs to be remedied at the earliest. Adding fluid will only be a temporary fix until there is no more leakage. If the fluid level isn’t the issue, you’ll need to have the problem diagnosed further by a certified technician and repairs will likely be necessary. With the light illuminated, you won’t have power assist to help you steer. You will still be able to drive, but the steering wheel will be very difficult to turn, so you will need to be extra careful when driving.

Thanks, problem is that the engine will not start. So the car is stuck in the backyard. There is no leakage as this would be visible on the ground witch is covered with light flat stones.

And there is this fluctuating noise from some place in engine compartment. (tikketikketikketikke...) high frequenzy.May be it is designed this way that the engine will not run when there is a steering problem.

Not visible, your car has a complete undertray, maybe there is the oil.

Another point. Don´t know if it´s the same with Skodas...but try to turn the steering wheel complete from one end to the other. Maybe the steering wheel sensor must be new calibrated.

Also, disconnect the Battery for 10Minutes, to reset the whole electronic,  sometimes that helps.

But the noise seems to be the the alternator or the fuel pump....

Maybe a defect of the starter switch....

Yes i will try that now. BTW the instr book calls the steering system for "electromechanical" i think that is the reason why i couldnt locate the filler plug for fluid. Or have i misunderstood... I let you know.

Thank you for good assistance :)

Correct....then no oil leak possible..

The engine is running:D

I was too focused on the caution lights altough they come on every time ignition comes on. And the ridiciolus sound.

Lets check if there is power on the batt... Nope. My daughters Verso came in very handy but still not enough power to get the engine started. But it confirmed the the battery was flat- almost.

Lessons learned.... check for power on the batt before you do anything else.   Silly me:blush

Anyway- thank you for trying to help me!
