Radio upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi,  i have a  58 plate Skoda Fabia MKll. I am looking to upgrade my dance radio for a bluetooth radio with a screen, maps and reversing camera included. I have been quoted £300 without fitting, does this seem a fair price. Many thanks in advance.

That seems like a steal as I paid 300 for one that only had maps and Bluetooth is it a Columbus or Amundsen unit ?

I have no idea what model it is. Will find out this week.  Thankyou for taking the time to reply.

I paid £250 for mine off amazon without the reverse camera. They can be picked up for about £20 depending on where you look and what make of head unit you get. So £300 isn't bad especially if being quoted from a 3rd party supplier/fitter.

The The radios on the mkIIs are easy to replace. Pop off the plastic surround around the radio and. Undo the 4 torx head screws and slide the old unit out. Unplug the radio antenna cables along with the quadlock connector.

Plug the new unit in as required. Some 3rd party head units provide an adaptor to go from the dual Fakra that the fabia uses to Din.

Last step is to turn the car ignition on check that the radio works as it should and then screw it back into place using the torx screws and clip the plastic surround back into place.

Some head units come with a built in mic for Bluetooth call. Others come with an external mic that can be routed as desired from the back of the unit and around to another position in the car as needed.

Fitting it for the first time shouldn't take you any longer than an hour. You'll probably spend more time playing with it getting settings how you like than physically installing it.

can i recommend the columbus unit as i think they are better than amunsden and they are OEM

I posted a lengthy review of a couple of the chinese/no-name android based head units in the forum post linked above.

The one I currently have installed is this one here: Android 5.1 2GB head unit

Hi there, I recently had the head unit on my wife's Fabia vRS replaced for a Columbus DAB unit. The reason is it is a genuine Skoda item and fits into the space and can be programmed to work on all the controls in the car. Rustynuts near Richmond can supply them and will fit it and program it for free if you visit him. Really nice guy and very knowledgeable. Worth a try if you haven't made the purchase yet.
