Is now the right time to order a new Yeti 1.2 TSI Drive ?

Featured Replies

I previously owned a Yeti 1.2 SE Plus for three years from August 2011 to 2014.

Sadly ill health leading to having to give up work meant I was unable to meet the balloon payment at the end of the PCP, so I had to trade in for a lesser car!

Two years on, circumstances have improved and I have been considering purchasing one of the last new Yetis.

The Karoq does nothing for me so far, as has been said, it just looks like everything else in the small SUV sector.

I asked for quotes through CarWow over the weekend and the best offer I had was a fraction over 17K with finance or 17.4K without finance for a 1.2 TSI SE Drive. That was dependent on placing an order by today for a £500 registration bonus. I was not able to decide in time so that's gone now. I know it's the way it works, but rather annoyed that I have to do finance for the best deal as I want to make a cash purchase. Unsure if I could get the £1500 deposit contribution and then just settle the PCP after a month or so?

My main question is, is now the right time to order, or will prices drop further after the official unveiling of the Karoq this Thursday?

i just missed out on a pre-registered Yeti at a local dealer last week, a couple shook hands on the deal as we were waiting. That would have been 15.4K on a similar spec. Try as I might, I can't find any more pre-registered Yetis. I would like the 1.2 TSI SE Drive as that is the closest match to my previous SE Plus spec and I want sat nav. Maybe dealers will clear their showroom stock shortly? Any thoughts appreciated.

Many Thankd

Ashley

All you can get is what Dealers have or ones that are in stock or on there way to the UK so he or she who hesitates may be lost.

If I was buying with cash right now is be looking for a pre registered or low mileage 1 or 2 yr old car.

If you want new the choice is reducing daily. Read a post today about someone who bought the last available 1.2 SE in moon white. Colours left are largely the grey ones.

Although cars are still being built, (mine was built last week), you can only get one of the  cars ordered by dealers to fill any slots in the production schedule up to when production finished. Last orders were taken 21st April, and we are 3 weeks on from that so many of those speculative orders are likely to have been taken by someone by now who couldn't order the exact spec he wanted, but conversely will get the car sooner than normal.

Timing is a balancing act, probably not many more unallocated ones still to be built, and dealers should be able to see all those that are built but not yet sold.  However you will get what options have already been chosen.

You might get a second shot at getting one when dealers change their demonstrators, this tends to be 2-4 weeks after a reg change, although a trickle may hit dealers in meantime.   Some dealers will allow you to register your interest for one of their fleet in advance, so they call you (but then might not give such a good price if they have customer lined up).

Probably best to check Skoda website for used vehicle search, and sort by newest (plenty of SE spec, but newer drive spec seem rare).  Might need to keep checking every couple of days to see what's added.

Finally don't over restrict your search distance, if it's the car you want at the right price, because you want to keep it for a long while, be prepared to travel to collect it.  I did this once with a Fabia, paid deposit over phone, took train few days later after it had been through workshop, dealer offered to collect me from station.

You might be lucky and find a SE or SEL (not Drive) with the options you want

Nothing wrong with buying on lease, if you get a good deal. I was expecting to pay largely cash, but I saved about £1500 by going for the lease at zero% interest. I have put away the money into premium bonds so will get a small return and may even win big

The Demonstrators might not be available for 3 months / 3,000 miles after First Registrations if they were Demonstrators and not just Pre-Reg.

Many dealers will deliver a car, so you could get one from hundreds of miles away if they have the spec you want. Its not like buying a used car as it should arrive perfect and undriven on a trailer.

There are demo SE Drives coming into dealership stock at the start of June, if that helps you. Prices look the same as what you were mentioning new though. Probably some wriggle room there; just depends how good you are at negotiating.

There is certainly available stock, or there was two weeks ago. I grabbed a Quartz Grey one that was already in the UK. There were plenty of others, and in different colours, with a 3-4 week leadtime. This is on business lease, but I'd be surprised if those cars aren't also accessible by dealers for direct retail sales.

Our last car was delivered to the door but it certainly didn't come on a trailer.  The dealer drove it up from Exeter to North Devon and it had 75 miles on the clock.  I'm hoping our Skoda doesn't get driven here for delivery that would be 180 miles.  We will know next Thursday, can't wait !!!!

That's something to insist on as part of the deal.

I learnt my lesson when my first company car arrived. 180 miles on a rover 214 which needed careful running in at the time. Clearly had been very speedily driven and engine was nearly overheating. Never was very economical and I am sure the delivery drive was part of the cause.

Delivery driver leant on one rear corner until I signed for the car. Didn't see the two small dents there until the next day so couldn't get them repaired by the supplier as couldn't prove I hadn't done them.

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on viewpoint, that corner was wrecked by a lorry 6 weeks later and was repaired anyway. Car didn't feel new after that!

Yeah, absolutely INSIST that the car is trailer delivered. My wife and I saw a brand new car with the yellow rear numberplate "New 2017 Model" on trade plates being absolutely pasted down the A1M a couple of weeks ago. Poor sod who got THAT car!

We ordered from Marshall in Reading, think we will ask them how it will be delivered.

It's only because of the lease that delivery is in the equation for me to be honest. I'd be happy to collect from whichever dealer is being used, where ever they're based. Then the return trip is part of running in - that's what I did with Yeti #1 from Prestons (as was ) in East London, back up North.

So if you're looking at a direct dealer sale, book a train ticket

Thanks for all the replies. At close of play tonight I placed an order with Botley Skoda for the very last 1.2 TSI SE Drive in solid Pacific Blue which I happen to like, the offer from the weekend was still honoured. So I did the 0% PCP finance and will take the advice given and put the balloon payment into Premium Bonds, who knows!

Botley is only about 45 minutes drive from us here in Bournemouth, so no need for delivery. I tried dealing with our local Skoda franchise this morning, but they ended up over £2K away from the deal I signed for tonight. I did, however, get to see the dealer list of remaining Yetis, and there are now only about 20 cars in total in a mixture of configurations, mostly diesels. So if any of you are dithering, I would say act now.

its really nice to be returning to to the Yeti owners club, you are a really nice and helpful group of people. Thanks for helping with my decision, I am really excited to be having a Yeti return to our drive soon.

Great to hear

I've part exchanged on my Skoda Citigo for a Yeti SE L Drive 1.2.  It's coming on Friday to Lookers Guildford, they had a difficult time trying to locate one with 17" Matterhorn Wheels, but managed to find one in Croydon in Petrol Blue.  I've been informed that I had the last one with Matterhorn wheels.

Interesting - the spec for SE-L Drive is Origami. SE Drive has the Matterhorns.

Unless it was a no-cost option to change out the Origamis, for Matterhorns?

The Matterhorns were a £300 option on the SE L Drive, I'd have preferred them. I wanted the L for leather, Xenons and LED rears but as it's leased I didn't see the point paying for the Matterhorns. Inferior wheels on higher spec car in my opinion.

Strange, but such is the wisdom of those at Skoda UK deciding on spec levels!

On the SE the standard wheels are grey, black ones are £300 extra. Grey suits the Petrol Blue saw one at my dealer.

On SEL they are £300 extra but black

Understood. Grey looks better anyway, in my opinion.

Not a black wheel fan myself.....

Unless you have ordered a black car?? which grey will not go with in my opinion.

Interesting as regards the number left.

My wife has only just recently received a letter from our dealer offering a good deal on an SE Drive and also got a phone call this morning - don't know why they are bothering with so few cars left unless they have a few in their own stock rather than available to all dealers?

If ours had been a little older (only 18 months old) I may have been interested, but I'm not, as it's low mileage, SE L and have had fitted a tow bar and L&K side mouldings and really like it!

  • 2 weeks later...

Took delivery of it this Friday, really enjoying it.
