Skoda fabia estate mk1 electric Windows

Featured Replies

Looking to buy a mk1 estate, it comes with front manual Windows and I will be looking to convert to electric, the kit I'm looking at says it requires 12v of power, does anyone know if the mk1 1.4 mpi estate would be capable of this? Sorry I'm young and don't know much about stuff like this so any help would be appreciated, many thanks

Nearly all cars are 12 volt, so yes.

To change to electric windows you would need to change quite a few components, it would be worth waiting for one with electric windows to come up for sale, if your mechanical and electrical knowledge is limited it could be quite a challenge.

I would be looking at comfort trim levels estates as they will have the electric windows as standard.

And make sure the windows move smoothly and quietly. If they don't walk away.

Completely agree with the above, not a reflection on your enthusiasm or ability but it really is a faff of an upgrade, especially as many cars will have had electric Windows ( front ) from new, another way of converting would be to buy replacement doors BUT and I don't know if all cars used a standard wiring loom which would give wiring for the motor assembly and door operation window switches ??

In short if electric Windows are a must buy a car with them already in !!!

Mike, I appreciate your posts says you are young but it appears you have a saxo at present, it could be worth checking if your insurance would be affordable in a 1.9tdi ?

If so look for a comfort, ambience or best of all an elegence model, in my opinion if you can find a well care for example you will have the best mk1 Fabia mainstream car ( there were some special editions made too ) Vrs aside.

Engines are good for mega miles, with regular oil changes and if cared for the car hides high mileage well, OK there won't be one on every street corner but they do come on the market regular enough to make it worth waiting for one

His first post says he is looking at a 1.4 mpi.

Yes, I did read that, which is why I asked if he'd checked as to affordability of him insuring a 1.9tdi ( in my daughters case there wasn't hundreds of £'s difference in quotes between 1.2 petrol and a 1.9tdi and when you factor in savings on fuel car road tax and in this case converting the Windows, the 1.9tdi makes sense )

I do appreciate every one's circumstances and preferences are different of course

If he's using an electric window kit as he says he is, most of them use a mechanism that turns the existing window winder stub.

Went and looked at a comfort today, everything with it was absolutely perfect took it down garage and turned out head gasket was gone, absolutely gutting....may look at a mainstream mk1 hatchback for now or possibly the saloon version seems almost impossible to find a good condition estate in the south west

Mike,

what at exactly are you looking for, does it have to be petrol ?

maybe if you put on here your budget wants list for equipment etc you may get the heads up on one

I don't think it's just in the SW they are rare but if you really want one ( and as we own the hatch version I can fully understand why ) you may have to consider travelling a bit further afield

( there's one on flea bay in Bristol for example )
