right, sorry if these are stupid questions

ive brought autoleads SAK 3103 for the rear of the Octavia 6.5'' to fit some decent coaxial speakers in as I don't like the tweeters in it and I don't want them at ear level.

anyway question one: SAK 3103 - I saw on here it was SAK3101 but I cannot find these anywhere so have 3103 replaced them ( advised fit for Golf Passat)

question two which way do they go in?! I though the ring / lip fitted to the door but it looks like it fits the other way round

Question three: if I want to disconnect the tweeter in the door I can just unclip it right and no issues, and if I want to switch off the tweeter in the coaxial its wire 2 from the auto leads connector?

see photo regards to which way they are mounted

anyone ?

If you turn off the tweeter the sound will be quite muffled and you will be missing the higher frequencies.

You do attach the lip to the door. The speaker adaptors are held in using rivvets, not screws. This is why it looks different.

If you do want to stop the tweeter from working you can cut the cable from the tweeter BUT if you want to get it working again repair will be a knightmare.

Why do you not want the tweeters there?

ok so a heads up on this one, they are mounted with the lip out, and was fairly straight forward to do and the SAK 3103 are a perfect fit lining up with the holes perfectly fixed on with m4 bolts and nuts silicone in for a better seal, I used bolts instead of the screws and backing plates they come with the SAK's because as you can see on the first pic there it a 80 degree lip on the speaker hole which makes it impossible to use them, so bolts are your best bet

door cards off ( 3 screws T20  x2 T30's)

Drill out the 6.4mmm rivets

fit adaptors lip out and bolt up tight

fit speaker cable adaptors ( should come with SAK's)

fit speakers ( 64mm mounting depth on mine and no issues with clearance)

place some dynamat or similar ( I like to feel for vibrations and use as little as possible, hence it looking weird but works well)

refit door cards

on another note, I'm much happier with the rear tweeter now being in the bottom of the door and not next to my ear.

with the sensitivity being 93db I thought stock HU would be enough to drive them but as they're 60watt constant RMS it's not enough to get a good sound so a amp was required, now they sound very good indeed.

Next up Hertz Comps in the door amped up too.

I'd suggest using as much as possible rather than as little as possible when it comes to deadening.

Normally I'd suggest not using rear speakers at all but it depends what you like.

I wouldn't amp the rears up when you put front components in though. They will drag the sound stage backwards which is not what you want

hmmm doesn't make a difference, if you stop all the rattles then why use more, all you're doing then is adding unnecessary weight.

100% will always use rear speakers - I think it fills better, gets a better range in speakers and its a personal choice.

I prefer music coming slightly from behind (phrasing) so I will still continue to amp the rears and then then fronts when they're in.

It does make a difference trust me, but if you are happy with partial coverage then its up to you.

Thats a very strange type of staging having it slightly from the back (your ears aren't designed for that) but if its how you like it then carry on with it.

Maybe try not amping them and see if you really do prefer it
