Skoda Fabia 1 Estate - Hatchback Parts? General First Skoda Advise

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

New to Briskoda just got my First Skoda Fabia Estate (Kombi?) 6Y5 1.9TDI Ambiente 2005

First of all on a wee side note, if anyone know anything special/different about these cars? Sort of need to know things please let me know as the is my first VAG car, I believe its a PD engine as I cant see a DPF anywhere.

My Question really here is could anyone help me with what parts from the same model Skoda Fabia Hatchback will fit on the Estate?

How different is the Chassis, setup if anyone knows?

I am looking to fit a towbar for some light towing aswell, would a Fabia Hatchback towbar of the same Era fit ok?

I dont want to go to the scrappies and come back with a whole load of wrong parts, most of the places my way only have hatchbacks in stock.

Parts I need off the top of my head are:

Air Blower Vents (All 4 front, old paint/decorators car... most of these brittle bits are broken)

Door Hinge (Driver side rotten and door dropping slightly)

2x ABS Sensors (Although probably best to buy new? whats your thoughts?)

A new set of Dash Clocks (Or maybe just bulbs? Any idea what type of bulbs it uses? 501?)

2 Rear Brake discs/pads ( Whats peoples views on used brake discs if they still look good? they dont need to be perfect just good enough)

Towbar

Can I grab most/all of those parts off a Skoda Fabia Hatch? or Estate only?

If anyone can shed any light on these that would be very very much appreciated....

There's a slight intermittent power steering issue aswell but I haven't even checked the fluid yet so it may be nothing....oh... where is the PS Fluid tank? lol

Jordan

I'd have thought dash vents would be the same on hatch or estate ( there were some on eBay recently )

others will be along, hopefully, with further info

BUT

If you intent to tow ( anything ) should you really be considering 2nd hand discs and pads ??

Edited by davidwhite

PS fluid tank is under the battery.

ABS sensors can be very stubborn to remove, so getting 2nd hand ones out may not be worth the gamble. Which corners are showing faults?

Clocks are lit by (surface mount) LEDs on the circuit board.

Edited by Wino

Dash air vents are the same as hatchback/saloon.

If the cluster lighting is dim make sure the dimmer switch is turned up. You can't just swap a different set of clocks in as they would need coding to the car as the immobiliser is built into the cluster circuit board. The LEDs can be replaced by a competent person. They need unsoldering and new ones soldering in. However they are tiny and not easy to handle.

Cheers for everyone's advise

Good point about the brakes. I would never use used pads but have used used disc before that lasted a good while. Got new ones anyway.

thats a pain that I can't just swap the clocks. I've took them out and apart but I can't figure out how to get the circuit board off the dials without breaking it. I'd like to have a look see how hard they seam to solder. Does this mean I wouldn't be able to start the car at all with the dials out? Or is one of the clips for immobiliser and one gauges?

its both passenger front and back showing faults, do you guys know if hatchback abs sensors will fit? They are a hell of allot cheaper on eBay but seam to suggest they won't fit a combi. I don't fancy giving euro car parts 50 a piece.

and finally this power steering tank....who at skoda thought that was a good place to put it? I've now seen the top cap but how do I take out the battery tray to get into it? And can I check the level from the cap?

Sorry if if these are silly questions. My last car was an old old fiesta. It was massively easier to work on. Mostly because it didn't have any gadgets at all lol

With the cluster removed the engine will not run.

The battery box is bolted at various points. Just take the bolts out.

Power steering fluid cap has a little dipstick on it. There are two makes of power steering used on Fabias - TRW and Koyo. TRW is more common and is written on top of the cap.

Rear ABS sensors seem to be...

Left: Part number 6Q0927807B

Right: Part number 6Q0927808B

Front...

Left: 6Q0927803B

Right: 6Q0927804B

What is the problem with the cluster back lighting? Does it not work at all? Do the heater controls light up?

Rear lights are different on a hatchback but are the same on the estate as the saloon.

Discs are the same but I wouldn't be putting them on from the breakers yard. I replaced the front discs on mine with new ones from mick's garage. They've lasted better than the originals did!

No one mentioned rear lights.

Ah, I see you were just pointing it out for general info and not because he specifically asked about rear lights. That's what confused me.

Thanks for the info guys,

TMB- Great picture man, really appreciate it, Ill try figure out how to get this battery cradle out , one of the bolts is missing, i think there was still one in it deep, wasn't sure if it was part of it or not as the whole car needs a good clean inside/out.

The light cluster does light up and Most of the lights work, There doesnt seam to be a light for -

ESP (I have the button so I presume I have ESP)

ABS (I can see a slight yellow dot where this should be, almost looks like its been taped over as a little trick but on stripping the clocks out, couldn't see any sign that anyone had been into them before, seal tape not broken till I opened it)

TC? (I dont even know if I should have TC if I have ESP?)

Ill try and figure out what others are missing but I think that might be it.

Also a mate of mine has reset the service intervals to as far as possible (As i know's ill be servicing everything yearly/6 monthly anyway) using VCDS. Although I still have a light flashing "INSP" and a wee spanner next to it and a beep when I first start the car up is this because of the ABS Sensors?

Does anyone have any info on the towbar? The ones I see on the web seam to suggest a horizonal bolting to the chassis, however looking at mine, I can clearly see the bolts should be vertical into the boot through the extra wee bolted on bit of chassis, Anyone know where i'd get the right towbar? Im looking at a max of £80 if I can.

I cant thank you guys enough, I'd probably still be scratching the head right now if it wasnt for the help.

Generally speaking to design a saloon & estate from the hatch they use as much of the hatch car as possible.

They only differ after the rear wheel arch & the top half of the rear doors & roofline from the "B" pillar to the rear.

The estate & saloon use the same rear bumpers, lights etc, just above the lights they differ.

Hatchback is called "Fastback" & estate is called "combi" & saloon is called "notchback".

Thanks Freedom... again looking at your diagram it shows the bolts going Horizontal... I cant see any holes in the chassis where this would go, anyone got any pointers that could help me find it?

That's because you are removing the metal crash bar & fitting the tow bar which replaces it, the legs of the bar go into the holes in the car body, like this MK1 Octavia:-

No it won't be because of the ABS sensors. It's easy to reset the service indicator using the trip button on the clocks.

For 'INSP' ...

Hold in trip button

Turn IGN on

Release button as soon as 'OIL' appears

Hold in button again

Release button as soon as 'INSP' appears

Turn button to the right until ------ appears

Turn IGN off.

For 'OIL'

Hold in trip button

Turn IGN on

Release button when 'OIL' appears

Turn button to the right until 'OIL' disappears

Turn IGN off.

This might help you with the battery tray. I'm not sure which one yours will have so will post both...

Thanks very much guys you've seriously been a great help. I'll need to get the tow bar asap.. Just about to go swap the old back brakes fingers crossed its not too hard.

Do any of you know, is the tow bar for the Fabia hatch shorter than for fabia combi? Some sites seam to list them differently and some people are saying they are the same

If you re-read that ETKA link to the rear bumper I posted it states the part numbers for the towbars & the Combi & notchback are "A" & the fastback (hatch) is "B"...

Ok quick update,

Just went to do the rear brakes and it looks like we have 1 seized rear caliper, Doesn't look to hard to change it over for a new one.

Anyone know if these are the same on all shapes (saloon/hatch) ?

Also if you've got any tips or things to watch out for dont hesitate to tell me, im hardly a pro lol

Looks like the last owner knew all about it, as there was only 1 pad in the calliper, theyve clearly been off before and hes struggled to get the two and the disk squeezed back in

  • Author

just found this one on ebay, the car compatibility list is quite big,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRAKE-BRAKING-CALIPER-CALLIPER-REAR-LEFT-30860848-/371161943780?fits=Car+Make%3ASkoda|Model%3AFabia|Cars+Year%3A2005|Plat_Gen%3A6Y5|Cars+Type%3A1.9+TDI&epid=1128385865&hash=item566af9cee4:g:s8cAAOSwbsBXn61N

does this mean I could get a rear caliper for any of the cars on that list and they would fit since they are all VW?
