4x4 not engaging, obd showing no fault? esp light stays on?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Does anybody have any experience of the esp light staying on, and the 4x4  not engaging?

I've got a 2005 octavia estate that should be 4x4, which is frustrating, as the 2wd version would have been about £800 cheaper.

Now, when I accelerate, or take the car off the tarmac, it spins the front left wheel(always the left, no matter which way I am steering, on sand, grass, or gravel)

The tyres all have about 80%thread.

I've scanned the OBD port with a kit, and it shows no fault.

Is it time to face the music and get it to a specialist which would be costly?

Are there mechanical components that would cause this? Brakes, sensors, sensor wires, discs, the haldex gear, etc etc?

Any help is greatly appreciated

If the ESP light is on, there should be fault codes stored.

I'd suggest finding a local member with VCDS to do a scan assuming you didn't use VCDS.

There are a couple of threads in the VCDS section to help find someone:

Had a similar problem, mine wouldn't show the fault in my Torque phone App but my Skoda dealer could see the fault. Just replaced the Haldex pump at a cost of around £300. I've heard the electrical connection to the Haldex can become corroded, Its probably just a motor that needs taking apart and cleaning if you can be bothered, looks relatively easy to get at, although I expect you'd need to replace the Haldex oil. I decided I couldn't be bothered to do that as I got £100 off the bill as a good will gesture my car was not even 4 years old.
