Known Issues?

Featured Replies

I'm not moaning cos I still really like the car, I've actually bought it because I can't find anything I'd like to replace it with!

So mine is an early 14 plate vRS TDI DSG, so far I've had an issue with the headlight that got rectified under warranty, the boost sensor went and was replaced under warranty and now the water pump has gone.  I believe these are all "known issues"

Anything else I need to look out for / wait to happen?  Have I got them all?

According to this forum, you dont have them all. If I had to pick the most serious of mine, its the dsg fault shifter and steering column electronics which I am still waiting to be fixed.

Very loud noises from under the bonnet & near side exhaust although, the off side exhaust is quiet

Is this really an issue?  I was aware it was a diesel when I purchased it and I knew it had a "fake" exhaust.

I'm more concerned about the loud noises that occur on the first Tuesday of the month, they usually start around 7pm but are done by 10.30!!!!  ;o)

Front door seals retaining rain water, mod'd door seals to fix.

I've had the rear shocks changed because they were rattling, a software update done because the cruise control dropped out randomly and the car started "over cranking" when cold that was also fixed by a software update, though it's done it once since.

I wish I knew the failure rate of the water pumps, I've got 9 months approved used warranty left and will be extending it for another year, I'm just over 40k miles and 3 years old.

I don't know much about the DSG selector issue though I see it mentioned occasionally.

Though that sounds a bit of a downer, they were all quite minor issues and just a bit annoying. Really enjoying the vRS, fancy adaptive cruise next time round, my friend with a golf recons it's the business with the DSG.

Have you actually done a quote on the Extended warranty site? I have 3 months left of my approved used warranty, and the quotes I'm seeing to continue my cover are not cheap at all. Another year warranty + 1 claim in that year would put me around the £750 mark iirc.

Spikes and sharp edges under the glove box?  :blush

Out of interest, what electronics problems are you having on the column?

I'll have a look at that, seems a bit steep for the 5th year, extended SWMBO yeti from 3 to 5 years when new for around £600 ish from memory. Only claimed on that when 3 years 3 days old and the environmental monitor burnt out taking the reversing lights / sensors / camera fuse out of all things. Sorted eventually. I'd been left arguing about the bill otherwise I'm sure.

Agreed it is pretty steep! At that sort of money I'd be tempted to self insure and hope for the best. New car extended warranty seems to be much cheaper.

Mine's coming to 4 years old and 30k. My quotes look like this:

Named component, 15k+ mileage = £574, £541, £423 (0, 100, 250 excesses). Dropping the mileage to below 10k knocks about £40 off the annual price so not really hugely different.

All component (covers more + higher claim limit) 15k+ mileage = £772, £641, £481 (0, 100, 250).

At those prices, I think I'd rather take my chances and hope for the best. There's also the possibility of Goodwill - if my DSG lunches itself at 32k/4years old I'm sure there's be a pretty good case that it should have lasted longer and the manufacturer should contribute a good chunk of the bill.

Actually these are trouble codes that appear on my car:

16 Steering Column Electronics

    System description: Lenks. Modul
    Software number: 5Q0953507DF
    Software version: 0110
    Hardware number: 5Q0953549C
    Hardware version: 002
    Serial number: 28051408490639
    ODX name: EV_SMLSKLOMQB
    ODX version: 017001
    Long coding: 1410

    Trouble codes:
B116229 - Selector lever park position lock switch Implausible signal
            Intermittent

I think this is related to those dsg faults.

Thanks! I don't have any problems, or help, just the steering column was a new one to me so wanted a little more info.
