DSG issue with Start/Stop

Featured Replies

I have an issue when pulling away after the engine has been cut off by S/S - when I put my foot on the gas pedal the DSG seems to be on neutral and after a second or sometimes two, it engages the 1st gear reulting the car to "jump" away (and I look like a stupid idiot that cant drive :) ). if I wait for a second or two before stepping on the gas pedal I can feel the DSG switches on the 1st gear. This happens while driving in D or Eco mode, in Sport mode everything works as it should. I told this to the local dealership and they ran diagnostics which came up empty. After they had serviced the gearbox it was fine for about 100km and then it was back to "normal" again.

Is this really how it works or I have something wrong with my DSG?

Thats not sounding right - mine is alway smooth. Perhaps get deal to go for a drive with you and show them.

Although if I give it a lot of right foot it can jump as you say.

I have a DSG and usually turn the start/stop off but when I do use it, by the time I have taken my foot of the brake pedal, the car has started and in gear before I press the accelerator. I don't think which mode the car is in affects the way it re-starts. Is this happening all the time or only on slopes - could it be the hill hold assist holding the brakes briefly and you are trying to pull away before these have released?

It is happening all the time. I now tried another Superb with a similar engine-gearbox (150PS) combination and it was smooth. I guess I have to book a time for inspection.

My car is exactly the same. What I find is it is best to tap the accelerator to start the engine and then press it again to move off.

I think what it's happening is that the gearbox is in neutral when the engine starts.

So if you just try and accelerate away it has to start the engine, engage gear and pull away so it tends to rush the process to try and catch up to where the accelerator is, leading to a neck breaking acceleration.

My 2015 build is exactly the same, and I use the same process, tap, pause, drive.....

I find the brake pedal works like the shutter release on a camera, i.e: press the shutter halfway down, it focuses, press it all the way down, it releases the shutter.

If you gradually release the pressure on the brake pedal, it reaches a point where the engine fires, but the brakes still hold the car. So, when you release the brake and move to the throttle everything is ready to go. It just takes a bit on anticipation and a little finesse. Or, if it's critical, just switch stop/start off.

Still, I've never experienced a two second lag before the trannie engages. I wonder if the idle is low?

You would be sorted with 'auto hold',

none of that sitting with a foot on a foot brake pedal, just tap the throttle and it fires up.

Nope, same symptoms with auto hold, I press the pedal and revs go up but it still takes a second for the GB to engage and the car jumps...most of the time. In Sport mode it works like a charm which is weird.

Switch SS off.

Doesn't sound quite right but DSG is not exactly smooth either at low speeds.  If I'm taking off after S/S engages (which only happens when I forget to switch off S/S :) ) and I hit the throttle hard e.g. sitting on the centre of the road turning off into a right hand junction, there is certainly a delay with the engine engaging followed by a little jerkiness alright but not to the extent that the OP mentions.  S/S is a bit of a disaster on the DSG Superb IMO, as many of us have found.  Re-engagement after S/S could be much smoother but the engine stopping before the car stops moving is the worst issue in my experience.

I always switch off start/stop, by default on start up.

When I know I'm going to b stopped for a while, I switch it back on.

However, don't forget to treat the DSG as a manual - it is not ur regular "automatic". This one has a clutch.

Just like a real manual, u can't just stomp on the gas - u need to b in gear first.

Same deal with the DSG, start/stop or not.  U need to give it a sec or two before taking off.

If ur waiting 5 secs though, then u have issues.
