Well you were wondering what to do in the future how about next phase some 4/6 pot calipers with some sizeable discs maybe 323’s / 330’s which will go under the spiders with spacers. The difference between 4 piston and single piston calipers is night and day, 288’s to say even 323 4 pot brembo’s is an unbelievable upgrade.

maybe some high end coilovers too, will help you no end round a track too

Brakes are fine on the road and track and stop just as good as big ap racing brakes when comparing logs.

these don’t use wastegates on vag diesels and because as greddy state they go up to 3 bar so 2 bar of boost 1 bar atmosphere.

mine peaks at 2.4 bar of boost and settles at 2.3 bar which would be 3.4 and 3.3 bar.

Pre registered for german invasion and was talking to bobby who has the darkside 1.6 tdi golf about going to it but as he lives in derby it is abit of a trek but then a few days before hand he told me he was going. People have been talking about me and bobby racing for nearly 3 years and even though we have met up a few times before its never been at the track.

Race 1 bobby kept his road tyres on

Race 2 bobby swapped over to his slicks

Race 3 with data from vcds logs showing rpm boost and egt

still struggling with wheel spin through 2nd so when racing a friend with a stage 1 dsg golf GTD i thought id try a little lift in 2nd so it stops spinning then back on the throttle again, think i lifted too much as it was my slowest time and trap speed of the day.

50368452003_4b9fee0b77_c.jpg

When i viewed a couple of the pics from last time i thought the car was sitting too much on the 1st-2nd gear change and that was then lifting the front causing it to spin so thought id put the camera facing the back for the next run so i could see what it did.

this one turned out to be my last and fastest run of the day, car ran 14.040 @108mph so exactly the same time as last time and i had a speed on one run of 110mph which are low 13 second speeds but wheel spin is killing it.

Did notice the meth tank did have a small drip leak coming from the connector which ill need to sort out and find where its coming from exactly

50368387988_39aa480398_c.jpg

Really do love this car and still can't believe how far its came in 4 years as it will be 4 years next month since i've owned it

Amazing to see how far it's come in 4 years.

I noticed your Drls stay on even when the fog lights come on, is that something you have to do on Vag-Com or could it be done by messing with fuses?

It’s something to do with the auto lights kit. I’ve seen it do the same with a vw up switch

Well crail again today, annoyed that the last 2 days i went i ran exactly the same time of 14.010 i was determined to get into the 13's so again car was stripped out, meth filled up and also spoke to jeff at trackstuff for some VP racing Race diesel. Weirdly enough fuel economy actually interested using race fuel :D

Cold day so no temp in the ground so again struggled with wheel spin.

Race 7 against a BMW M5, know i was going to get beat but launching it noticed he had a worse one than me and was just in a cloud of tyre smoke, thought i could maybe get a gap on him and he might not be able to run me down but went into 2nd and had absolutely nothing, almost like it was in limp mode and you can see from the curve on the graph what i was like compared to how sharp a normal run is, sadly he caught me.

I had intended to make it along to Crail today but life got in my way.

I take it you mean that the fuel economy improved on the race fuel...?   That's no surprise really.  A higher cetane rating should give you more mpg.

I don't know if it's still the case but I used to get better fuel consumption on French (and Spanish?) diesel for exactly the same reason.  It used to be know as 'heavy diesel' back in the day,

French and Moreso Spanish diesel might be a better blend because they usually have a much nicer climate. Here in Ireland and the UK as we all know the winter is much colder than in Spain for example. So petrol companies need to put additives in diesel when it gets cold to stop it gelling. I have heard of people dumping Vodka or Kerosene in their tanks for a similar result. Just to add, Winter diesel will often give out worse mpg because of the additives that have been put in, this is why I bothered to make my point as it stands to reason that the opposite would be true. A "Spanish" Diesel ( Or Rather the Race diesel being used here)that doesnt need any special additives might give a better burn and thus give more mpgs than our (at present) "Winter Diesel".

Just a quickie as the discussion can be had i one of the dozen fuel threads on the Forum.

Winter Spec Diesel & Petrol is now being delivered to Fuel Stations in Scotland and will be until the end March 2021

The Haulage industry, fleet buyers, Taxis etc know what their fuel usage is as do people that buy their fuel and watch consumption.

So think of last weeks weather where you drive and next weeks when you are using Winter Spec Diesel or Petrol in Scotland and Winter has not set in and a big drop in temperatures and maybe you are using the same tyres,

?

Has your fuel consumption increased with the winter fuel or not, is it worse by any significant amount?    I think not.

Those that think that additives are added to stop waxing means that the fuel you buy then produces less energy (it is diluted) and you pay tax and duty to get the same volume of liquid but are getting less miles / km from that are badly mistaking.

Some might find that if the weather last week and next week are the same and the Winter Spec fuel is now in your tank the economy improves.

I usually don’t pay too much do it but before I’ve normally averaged 53-55 this time it was averaging 65mpg

If you stripped out your car before making the trek then I would imagine it would also help mpg aswell as the high cetane diesel.

So at Crail last time on the last run the clutch slipped on the 3-4 change, did the same going home but was fine ever since but made the decision that i would need to look at a clutch upgrade so made the trip down to darkside to get some parts of the map tweaked and also pick up a new clutch while i was there so went for the best one i can get for this box the sachs SRE paddle clutch.

Arrived at Darkside at 11:30am and with them closing at 3pm thought we'd have plenty of time to sort it out.

Darkside being the great mappers they are Martus that was working on the map actually stayed till 9pm to get it just right, also got a powergate as well so mean the maps can be done remotely now as well

Being down that way noticed that Santa Pod's last RWYB was the next day and still some hotel rooms nearby for only £30 so thought why not so headed down got to the hotel for 1am after stopping off on the way to help another member with their Fabia

50560155663_d176180927_b.jpg

Headed off the next morning some ran in the morning so track didn't open till 12:30

So the runs

Haven't been to the pod for 3 years and lined up for the first run, first launch and wheelspin, went to 2nd wheelspin again which i didn't expect, into 3rd and it revved up, thats not wheelspin thats clutch slip, lifted and went onto the throttle again still slipping, into 4th still slipped. still got a 15.5 @80mph only .1 slower than the fastest time i ever got in the 1.6

In car isn't very good as in my lane someone in front blew a diff so had to move the camera but the app on my phone wasnt working so couldnt see what the view was

on the return road everything was fine but had to make a choice, do i attempt more runs or call it quits and head home as thats a 6 hour 400 mile drive.

Made the choice to do another room but this time really slip the clutch on the launch and see how it reacts, really slow launch but once into 2nd full throttle, into 3rd and ht the meth no slip at all and managed a 14.6 @101mph

incar

3rd run i thought i'd come off the clutch quicker with the meth on all the way through but still slip it abit more at the start, again got the power down when i got into 2nd and down to a 14.2 @ 103mph

incar with data

sitting in the queue thinking ok one more run this time alot more aggressive launch and see how it holds, waiting in the line it started raining and this time they called it off and ended the day short. Possibly lucky for me. packed the car up and it made it all the way home.

red run1 with clutch slip, blue run 2, orange run 3

50560434088_f47284b94e_b.jpg

So think that's me for the rest of the year with events with everything thats going on, just some maintance and new parts over the winter for next year now.
