AMD's 2 litre 304bhp 162mph Fabia Monte Carlo TDi *6 speed conversion*

Featured Replies

Spent the evening reading this from page 1 and thoroughly enjoyed it, although I had to skip a few videos but not the final Darkside post.

It will be very interesting to see how the extra power and torque translates to lap and acceleration times.

The build has come a long way and I love your enthusiasm for the car.

There was times when they were stripping down the engine and I got email after email with details of the damage where I felt like giving up on it but kept remembering it’s my first car and I just couldn’t give up on it.

I bet your insurance has jumped a bit from 105bhp to 304bhp.:whew:

Seems to get cheaper the more powerful it gets not sure how that works though.

Snap couldn't believe how little I paid in May. I have an excuse being north of 50 though.

I’m not a fan of the clean look prefer it looking like it actually gets used 😂

Fair enough I've been so bored lately I've just spent all my time tidying up all the stuff no one will ever see.

Since smoke levels are a big talking point on diesels to give you an idea of how much it smokes

I watched the video Darkside posted on Youtube. I had no idea this was your car!!! BRILLIANT! 👌

Did a quick run in it today 0-60 was rubbish as it was spinning till 3rd but then it really starts going

30-70 time is really crazy considering its spinning all the way there basicly

looking at the graphs compared to before you can see its way behind then just buggers off

Really enjoying the car now, little glitch on it lately (im not one to only show the good stuff as you can tell) was filling up the washer fluid and thought there was a bolt missing from the downpipe but since its always had a Vband before i kept doubting myself so fired a quick email to darkside just to check and they said there should be one there and looks like it had fell out so would send me a conversion kit to studs and nuts instead which they posted out on tuesday at no cost so top customer service as usual.

Then last night was driving to a friend to visit them on the motorway, no high speeds or full throttle runs just crusing then put on a little throttle to overtake someone and i heard a ping then the car got really loud. Got off the motorway and pulled over and the other bolts had came out and the downpipe had fell off.

Had to then drive it to my mechanic up here to drop it off at his house which involved driving with all the windows down so i didnt gas myself to death 🤣 killer of a headache today i can tell you that.

new parts arrived today and managed to source a gasket locally as thankfully thats a factory part

All fixed again and new pads fitted, EBC Bluestuff an upgrade from the yellowstuff pads, never had an issue with yellowstuff but want to try these as this gets to higher speeds alot quicker

Absolutely loving the car now, trying to get into TOTB to get runs at elvington but they aren't replying to messages and also noticed that Terminal Velocity and doing some rolling half mile events this weekend to. Has seen 163mph on the clocks so far.

Superb effort, Really like the Idea of the 2.0 CR140 Lump in a Monte Carlo....To be honest having owned a MK1 Fabia VRS with the 130PD I always fancied a MK2 Monte Carlo as a more modern  replacement but I always considered the 1.6 105 TDI as a bit of a downgrade No offence.

Frustrating really as you can get a Seat Ibiza FR with the 2.0 CR140 as standard which shares the same Chassis as the MK2 Fabia anyway but the Seat Ibiza FR doesn't look half as smart as the Fabia Monte Carlo in my opinion.

As said though, Top Effort. Bet its quite a decent package, 300BHP is a decent amount in a small FWD Hatchback.

So the fabia now has it's first event arranged with the new set up, Standing 1/4 mile and Standing 1 mile racing at Elvington next weekend

50129838377_8242e6ac2b_c.jpg

Had a think about what tyres to take the ZZR's have a slightly higher profile and dug out the ratios to double check them, i think in the standing mile i'd be hoping for 140mph

The top speeds at 5000rpm

You coming to York on Sunday :)

I had to overtake a 2007 Audi A4 (probably Euro 4 ) diesel the other day because of the plumes of diesel soot he was shooting out of both exhausts every time it accelerated. Can't believe it passed an MOT in that state TBH.

Love to but working 06:00 until 18:00 next Saturday and Sunday and the following weekend in Cumbria on holiday. The 1 mile straight line event would suit the 4WD and 360bhp and would reach 160mph for sure in 6th gear because the factory limiter has not been removed I discovered twice recently. 12 Mpg at max velocity BTW.

first of all sorry to @Schtum was in your neck of the woods and didn't prewarn you so you can come see the car 😅

One of my friends Simon who is a ford tuner (a car he has tuned is currently the fastest 1/4 mile fiesta st in europe and is closing in on the world record) is bringing his 701BHP Focus RS with him to straightliners this sunday so went up to pay him a visit today and we got talking about my gear ratios and speeds that i posted above. So he had the idea of sticking it on his dyno and see what speeds it gets, while on it he wanted to do some power runs. I trust simon's dyno as i've seen multiple cars on it that have been stupidly quick on the track and the cars he has built over the years have a proven track record. Graphs are in WHP as simon hates Flywheel hp and i calculated it using a 15% drive train lose.

I know Darkside underrate thier cars as i've been to dyno days with bobby in his golf and its always made more and a couple of the other cars but here was the results. 2.3 bar of boost too. As you can see all constant too which shows how good their mapping is for the cars to be constant.

In other news air con is fixed! just needed a regas.

Great day at Elvington. Expectations were a realistic 135mph with a hope for 140mph. He blew by that expectation!

Hi, Not long got myself almost the same Monte as yours but my one is a 12/2012 (62) plate. the dashboard is not the same but the rest is as a standard car. Anyway I'm interested in the back brake disc conversion as a looks thing for now and I know that the back axle is the way to go but do I need to be careful when choosing what year of Ibiza to go for as a donor?

Anyway have a bunch more questions if you can stand to answer them but I'll just start with that one for now. Thanks..

Great car by the way

probably going to be a longish post so best to make some tea.

First "competitive" event for the car since the 2 litre was put in, Always wanted to do one of these top speed events just to see how fast the car can go, event is a standing mile with speeds also taken at the 1/2 mile too. Looking at the logs from 1/4 mile runs i had a realistic idea of speed of 135mph with a hope of maybe touching 140mph. Managed to rope in my mate simon in his 700bhp Focus RS and Richie who had a monte carlo before but now has a 400bhp 335d.

50160646551_b2a5b19225_c.jpg

50160102258_531178e5d6_c.jpg

Since it was the first time at one of these events i know from experience just to build things up. First run i did was no meth, no hard launch and short shift to 5th and let it run out, hit a crosswind at 100mph as you can see in the video it weaves a little. Running a Vbox sport i had a live gps speed on my phone, looked at the speed and it seen 150mph. 150mph in my little diesel skoda in around 1 mile from a standing start. Couldn't help but have a giggle to myself at that one in the shut down area. Official timing had it at 147mph. Expectations already exceeded!

50160102248_373891773b_c.jpg

Next run decided to go a slightly harder launch and rev it out abit more, keeping an eye on the gps speed i decided to hit the meth switch to give it a little push to maybe get to 150mph but the light didn't come on! No meth and it went through the timing beams at 149mph! No meth 149mph! All i could think was what on earth have Darkside built here.

50160647146_647b941984_c.jpg

Had to work out why the meth didn't kick in, knew it had meth as even if the tank was empty the light will still show if the solenoid would still activate and a green light comes on in the car and if the tank is empty another light comes on to show its low and i had just filled it when we arrived. First thing to check was the fuses, all ok and it was 100% working the night before as i had a run in with a golf r in mexico. The system is activated via boost so when it reachs a certain boost level it kicks in. Checked the line on the manifold all good, traced it back to the switch and theres no boost line there. it had came off so fitted it back on and cabled tied it in so it couldnt come off again.

50160646296_8759d40937_c.jpg

Went to line up again for another run but it was lunch time so had to wait for afterwards

50160103018_f577ea38ae_c.jpg

Also as you can see parked outside the guys selling some race fuel got chatting to them and they gave me some stuff to try.

50160896682_9939ec24ca_c.jpg

Plan was to do as i did in the last run, run the car up get to 5th then when in 5th hit the meth switch, run was good and the car was hauling, hit the brake and looked over at the gps, 160mph, 160mph in a daily driven diesel hatch. Couldn't believe it and got abit excited at that. Went through the beams at 153mph

50160102243_aeda2fbe76_c.jpg

Next run thought i would try and full meth run from start to finish and go for 155mph. Forgot i had the window down slightly so put it up when i was in 3rd but then hit the hardcut for a second before then going into 4th, lost some speed/time but at the 1/2 mile it was 3mph up even with that which shows how much the car was trucking along, got to 154mph on gps still not at the timing beams yet and we get limp mode, brown trouser moment for me as i thought i had broke it, thankfully ryan from darkside was on hand by email most of the day and was keeping in touch with how i was getting on. The car isn't mapped for meth its just an add on which you can turn on or off but i think full throttle for that long was abit much for it, as you can see the IAT's were over 60 degrees C. still went through the beams at 149mph and that wasn't me breaking but it coasting down in limp mode.

50160896712_47b2b6a632_c.jpg

Fault code reset i made the decision that i was going to do one more run as i need to drive this thing back to scotland over 200 miles and would rather drive it back than tow it back. Decided im not going to do a full meth run but run it till 4th then hit the meth so its on for 4th and 5th all the way through. set off and car was just freight training alone, kept it in again after the timing beams for as long as i dared before hitting the brakes look over and seen 162mph! Timing beams were 155mph!

@DarksideDevelopments have built me an amazing car, it's hard to describe just how all round this car is. I can drive it 250 miles fire down a runway at 160mph then drive it 250 miles home that isn't loud you can still have a full convo on the motorway and dont have to shout or raise your voice and no smoke. Thats something you'd expect from a top spec audi/bmw/merc diesel not a little diesel skoda ecohatch. And it averaged 51mpg. Through out the day there was loads of people commenting on how quick it was and that they didn't expect it to be putting in those kinds of speeds. Couple of guys also said it was the car of the day for them as with the supercars you'd expect them to be quick but not a little diesel hatchback and they were even more surprised to see it was stripped out or trailered down and i was going to drive it home.

Safe to say i love this car, still my first car and its going no where ever.

As long as it’s a 6J you can’t go wrong. The fabia vrs will fit too bit the Ibiza one is around 15mm wider. Mines off an estate too.
