800-mile oil service

Featured Replies

Have just done 8,500 miles and a waring 'Oil service in 800 miles' appears on the Maxdot.

Does this comprise a simple oil change.

Is it likely to be covered in my PCP two services pack?

Should be - normally set to annual service on PCP so is it a year old?

Thanks, I took delivery of the car in February 2017. Bit surprised to have a service so soon.

Did you not notice after getting the car in February how long until a service was due?

Pity the Sales Staff never asked you what Servicing Regime would suit your miles / usage.

The Service Plan with Fixed Servicing seems as though it was not the right one for you.

At least after this Minor Service it can be set to Variable / Flexible if that is what you want, it is your choice.

Fixed 1 year or 9500 miles ish which ever comes first.

Variable service 2 years 18000

A minor service is carried out every 12 months or 10,000
miles, whichever comes sooner.

A minor service includes:

  • Oil & filter change (fully synthetic oil)
  • Vehicle inspection test and report*
  • Full vehicle road test**
  • Vehicle & software enhancements from ŠKODA’s database
  • Replacement pollen filter †
  • Diagnostic check including report
  • Re-set service interval display
  • Wash and vacuum

A quick question on this guy's.

I recently just had a interval/minor service for my MK2 superb which has usually always been on variable long life servicing.

Afterwards I realised instead of using the long life oil they used the normal stuff and put me on a fixed interval servicing so my next one is now due in 10k miles.

When I contacted the dealership they told me it was my fault as I had booked it in online as an interim service - apparently long life servicing is something 'completely different'.

I can't help but feel like I'm being taken for a ride as the only two options are to book for a interval or major service. It feels like they used the wrong oil and are trying to push it onto me?

Let me know your thoughts guys

Thanks

I'm convinced they put them on fixed servicing as a default as a way of getting you back through the door. They did it to mine too, switching it from variable to fixed without being asked and with the longlife oil in (no choice as it's a diesel).  They were happy to put it back on variable when challenged but offered no reason why they had done it.

It does seem that way to me. I've sent them an email waiting to hear back.

The thing that's bugging me is in on my previous services the breakdown on the receipt says long life 5w-30 this time just shell 5w-30 not long life.

£170 quid is a lot for a glorified oil and filter change - especially when they don't use the stuff they're supposed to.

Regardless of not saying Long Life, is the Shell 5w 30 Full Synthetic actually Long Life as in to spec VW507 00, suitable for Variable / Flexible Servicing.

If a TDI it needs VW507 00

If a TSI that gets oil to VW504 00 for Variable / Flexible servicing / Long Intervals,

the engine might well have a longer life with Fixed Servicing and even using VW502 00, Full Synthetic but not Long Life, as in 5w 40 FS.
