Fixed price service plan

Featured Replies

Just going ever so slightly off topic but worth mentioning - I  bought a Rapid last year and took out a service plan that hasn't been used. Due to a change in circumstances I'm changing the car to a Golf from Motorpoint so rang VWFS today to see if it could be transferred to the Golf and I'd pay any difference. Apparently the plan cannot be transferred or cancelled with a refund, "The new owner will be able to use it" I was told - brilliant, I thought, especially as the cars going as a part ex this weekend

I have a year old Superb now. I was thinking about going down the fixed servicing route. I do less than 10k miles a year and no short journeys to speak of. I am going to have my car swapped to fixed servicing from variable as prefer this and prefer more regular oil changes.

I had an interim oil change and filter done at 5k miles before a 2 week holiday in France last summer. Just feels more comfortable with me that engine fully run and nice new oil in it.

But I am going to have the car serviced by an independent Audi/VW specialist next who did the oil change last year. I feel more comfortable with them as the owner is a friend of mine and my wife's. They use VCDS and the dealer diagnostic machine. They can do updates from Skoda Auto and they have a way of updating the service records online. Audi has been doing this for longer than Skoda I have been informed.

Now to the real point, it will cost less than Skoda and they will spend more time on the car.

My biggest cripe with the 3 dealers close to me, and I have bought a car from each, when I see the workshop and what the mechanics are like, I wouldn't trust my Honda lawnmower with them quite frankly.

They just don't treat the cars very well. Thrashing from cold etc. My 280 is a keeper for a good while as I absolute love it. So not bothered if someone suggests my car will depreciate slightly more by not using a dealer.

If it needs warranty work it will have to go back to Skoda but until then my specialist is where it's going.
