Rear Camera Recalibration

Featured Replies

I recently had my chrome trim replaced as part of a service campaign and at the same time the Skoda dealer replaced the rear parking camera (apparently as part of another service campaign/recall). Unfortunately when the new camera was fitted an error was showing which meant the camera needs recalibrating.

Skoda leicester (Sandicliffe -Groby Road) does not have the equipment to perform the calibration and despite 2 weeks of searching!!! cannot find any garage in the U.K. that does. Skoda customer services are not helping and I now have a car with the rear camera fitted, but deactivated. A small matter but it is a feature that I had got quite used to.

1. Does anyone know of a Skoda dealer with the equipment to recalibrate the rear parking camera on a mk3 skoda superb estate - 65 plate?

2. Is there anyway I can just activate the camera that is fitted (pending its calibration)?

Thanks for any help

Dave

Seems like very poor service from Skoda. They must be able to get hold of the equipment, you won't be the first to need this doing so you will maybe have to be a bit more firm with them as they should fix it if they caused it and especially if its under warranty.

I would be very surprised if no one has the right kit.  It's also probably not unreasonable to think that one of the other VAG garage group will have something suitable too.

Time to lean very hard on them to fix it.  Škoda Technical in Milton Keynes could just send the kit to them on loan.

Thanks both.

I have rattled some cages today and both Skoda UK and the Leicester dealer's service manager have contacted me to assure me that the issue has not been dropped.

I have been told that the camera was replaced as part of the boot release/opening service campaign as it was integrated into the boot release part on my vehicle. I'm still not sure why the dealer felt the need to deactivate the camera pending the calibration as I am sure it works perfectly ok even if a fault is showing on the diagnostics.

I was also told that some local Audi garages apparently have the equipment required but not the software so some element of group collaboration may be required. I suspect this may be more difficult to organise than the proverbial p*ss up in a brewery!

Both the dealer and Skoda UK are meeting tomorrow and I should get some more news after this meeting.

I will update

You're looking for somewhere with a VAS 6350 if that helps :)

Much like this one: https://erwin.volkswagen.de/workshop/englisch/index.htm?https://erwin.volkswagen.de/workshop/englisch/pinfo/42320001000.htm

Worse case, you can probably print one out and use that:

Thanks Langers2k

The dealer was talking about the need for some "lasers" or specialist equipment for the calibration in addition to the above domino picture. They told me the equipment was £20 - 30k which is why most of the dealers do not have the equipment.

I don't know the truth from the fiction but hopefully I will hear more from Skoda or the dealer later today.

The lasers are just to ensure alignment between the above template and the car.

Plenty of people have managed to calibrate their cameras by doing a 'best effort' alignment, this is an informative post: http://www.clubtouareg.com/forums/f45/backup-camera-calibration-79501.html#post911881

Still, I agree that the dealer should sort this as they've replaced the camera without the right kit to get the new one working.

works on the older type that is linked to (RNS510 & RNS315)

A friend of mine fitted a highline camera to his tiguan with discovery nav, booked it in at the dealer they couldn't do it.

A lot of dealers don't have the equipment to recalibrate the forward facing cameras either.   So worth thinking about when you can either repair or replace a windscreen.  I opted for a repair on my Leon as the car would have had to go to a dealer 50 miles away and the cost of re-calibration is apparently very silly indeed.

Though if recalibration was actually needed was something I didn't want to risk finding out.

Hi Bud

I will ask the service manager what the boot catch campaign number/reference was when I speak to them tomorrow.

Hi Bud

Skoda Leicester confirmed today that they are looking to organise a loan of the equipment for the repair and I asked what the campaign number for the boot release was - Recall 55J1 V Tailgate control

I found another thread talking about the issue

Small steps of progress! Fingers crossed :-)

Thanks for that I'm assuming, I know I shouldn't, thats as I have an MY17 this was addressed before delivery.  I have not had mysterious boot activity and try to keep the key separate and not stuffed in  a pocket.

Cheers

I don't know for sure but my Superb was manufactured Dec 15 and the issue was highlighted last year so I guess your correct.
