Superb - ACC - Front Assist Unavailble

Featured Replies

I have had my Skoda Superb Technology Estate for around 6.5 months and done around 5.5K miles

So far, I have been very pleased with the vehicle, but today after a visit to my local Skoda dealer to address what I thought was a simple piece of warrantry work. A warning message appeared whilst on a motorway trip using the ACC, the warning message was displayed stating the cars Front Assist was unavailable.

After consulting the manual and doing what was suggested to no avail, booked the vehicle in for what I thought would be a simple warranty repair, to be told it is not covered under warranty and that I would have to pay around £250 to have the ACC Front Assist realigned.

When I asked why, it needed to be realigned, I was informed that I could have driven through a pot hole or had someting hit my car to knock the ACC front assist out of alignment (which to my knowledge has not happened and nothing is visible on the vehicle).  Another suggested cause was dust/dirt in the sensors.

When i questioned why this is not covered under warranty I was informed it is only covered for the first six months or first 6k miles.

Surely this must or could be a design flaw if this alignment can be so easily misaligned without any known/visible.

that is a load of bu11sh1t
dealers r stooping to new lows with their excuses in an attempt to make customers pay!!!

wats next - "u drove ur car up a slope too steep (gradient of more than 25 degrees) that the ACC radar fell out of alignment.  250 pound please."

for a pot hole to pop the ACC radar out of alignment, i'd be hoping to have a severly buckled wheel too!!

I've posted on this topic here before.  I had the same issue (I don't have ACC but had the same error message).  Had to take it to another dealer, as only some dealers are equipped with the calibration equipment.  They did briefly mention something about charging to calibrate however under no circumstance was I paying for it (and my own dealer backed me up on this).  Once it was calibrated, I had no further issues and I've done about 20k kms since.  This is also a known issue as we are not the only owners to have this message appear so I would stand firm on it and I wouldn't pay them a penny.  Besides, even on the basis of the 6k miles or first six months, you should still be covered there (which shouldn't apply anyway).

I agree with @Superb170 on this - if this happened to me within the warranty period there is absolutely no way I'd pay a penny. I'd go dealer > Skoda UK > legal if necessary, but under no circumstances would I pay for this to be rectified.

I had something similar on my wife's Audi A3 with ACC. In my case though it only needed a basic settings reset and could be resolved by running a routine in VCDS. It is worth trying that first if you can find a member with VCDS local to you. They will need look into the ACC module and look at adaptations. The security code required is given by VCDS if you hover over the adaptations button for a second or so.

When I did my reading on the subject it sounded like a full manual re calibration was a bit of a pig to do, although I recall reading a guide by someone who had managed to do it themselves if you are the adventurous sort. I agree it should be covered by warranty though.
