Octavia vRS 230 / 245 free performance mod!

Featured Replies

Hi all

not sure if anyone has seen it yet but it looks like it’s possible to turn up the performance of the VAQ diff fitted to the Octavia.

under the adaptations there is an option to set it to increased traction, apparently the guys on the GTI forums have noticed a significant difference with this mod on the grip and performance.

i haven’t been able to test it yet but apparently it also may work the same on my R for the rear Haldex diff.

From the factory it is set to standard

credit goes to the GOLF GTI forum, the DRIVE TRIBE forum and the Audizine forum.

Any good on the 4x4 vRS?

Watching with interest.

On my Cupra there are three settings which are available from the infotainment and wondered if this was an additional option?

It should be as it’s the same Haldex system as the R.

go to module 22 AWD instead and make the mod.

i will be trying it this weekend on the Golf.

I’m not sure but the Cupra may be set to increased traction as standard, but check with VCDS.

What effect is there likely to be practically? It won't alter the front/rear bias, as I understand that is electronically controlled? I can understand it being obvious on a FWD. One way to find out I suppose...

When I get time I will plug VCDS into my 245 and see if this is indeed available.  May need to take a serious brave pill to change anything on a 10 day old car however.

On the road tests of the pre FL 230 I recall that the diff was said to be less aggressive than on the GTi PP, does that mean the Golf has it set to "increased" as standard?

Fantastic, was waiting for someone to find this.

As Juan says many reviews mentioned that the VAQ implementation on the VRS was far less aggressive compared to the Golf PP/Clubsport and Leon, this was also confirmed as the case on the Pistonheads review of the 245.

I'd read that people thought it might be a hardcoded setting that could only be altered by remapping the VAQ ECU, I'd hoped otherwise, same as the XDS setting on the MK2 which can be altered with VCDS with great improvement.

This really should turn a great handling FWD VRS into an excellent handling one!

Brilliant!   Just got to wait till Janurary now for mine to test it haha  :D

I cant really answer that, only on the golf forums people with GTI PP were set to standard not increased traction.

someone mentioned that their cupra 290 was set to increased traction I think

Great find! As others have mentioned it's well noted that the VAQ diff is far less aggressive in the Octavia despite being identical to the likes of the cupra in hardware. Was only a matter of time with the know how. If only I had a 230... :)

Fan-bloody-tastic.

I'd asked Shark to have a look into this when I went for the remap and had the sound aktuator turned off, but they'd not done it before so weren't sure where to look.

Might have to send this over and see if they want to use my car to test it

anyone tried this yet?

;)

Tried @Black_Sheep & @WayTooTall have had issues with my vRS245, it seems to have a new configuration of the address points.  I think Black_sheep was going to post my scan for either or both @xpower or @andyvee to take a look at & get their expert opinion

Not got round to plugging mine in. Haven't even had a chance to wash it properly yet

Tried it on my golf R and it makes a difference - much more planted and neutral (FWD or RWD) under hard cornering

Didn’t try this mod Tony - we were trying to sort the HBA; it is the adaptations map and blank bits/bytes in the 09 Cent Conv module that are different (just arrived home now - will post sometime tomorrow).

...and yes this was with the latest software version / genuine cable, albeit older gen hex-usb+can.

I take it that if there is no Module Address 32 in my scan list, that my May 17 F/L 230 vRS DSG doesn't have a VAQ diff installed installed?

So I only have the XDS+ that uses the ABS and Brakes to brake an inside wheel (like on my FL Octavia II vRS).

Thanks.

A far as I know up to now,  only the 245 and the Pre FL 230 gets the VAQ diff

That is a shame - but I guess that is why I don't have a Module 32.

New VCDS cable has arrived and I've carried out a baseline scan of all modules.

Not anytime soon as I’m away until next week. I could have a look in my Module 22-AWD when I get back.

Nothing much to crack. Just had a look in Module 22 - AWD and it's there as an adaptation option.
