Selling privately, lack of sellers?

I'm in the process of selling my vrs and looking on autotrader, I can't find a single mk3 privately for sale in a 100 mile radius if me. 

 

Is it just me or does that seem weird? There are only 2 other cars similar to mine and they're both miles away from traders.

 

I still have 3 months warranty on mine so I'm thinking I'll get my arm bitten off?

It's the value of the car ... Car purchasing has very much gone down the finance route for anything over £10k that's not "specialist".

 

The market for £10k+ cars on private sales seems pretty much dead unfortunately.

Over 10k and I am going to a garage, at least I will get a few weeks guarantee minimum

Become a freedom member and advertise it on the forum here. Do it while still in warranty and maybe it will get interest. Cost far less

Those that own their cars maybe bought a keeper and for more than 3 years, even 5 years plus, so they are not advertising them if not selling them, 

and those that just rent their cars have them going to the dealers to go into the trade or to auction.

I think with a modern car like the Skoda, you are onto a winner if you keep it till it dies. Even my last honda civic petrol lasted 190k 17years. My Skodas should outlast me!

Most people seem to just hand the car back at the end of their PCP term. I sold mine, no bother at all. Price sensibly, good advert and it’ll go. I’ve seen a few advertised on here that have sold.

If as rare as hens teeth as a private seller in your area then those private buyers or even traders should be hot footing it to your door, 

or the phone will never stop with chancers, dancers and those wanting to have you advertise with them.

Have you tried a local Independent Car Seller to see if they are interested in purchasing a 1 owner still in manufacturers warranty car from 

the owner, 

some do like to cut out the middle man ie WBAC or BCA. (others need the finance that BCA provide for them to buy their stock.)

Good point. I may ask locally. There is a place down the road that sells shiny sporty/prestige cars(with light years on the clock)

 

Ultimately if anyone beats the WBAC quite I got then it's win win. I don't need more than what they offered but it's against my nature to sell a car out of simplicity if I can make a grand more privately.

Worth a try.

Lots of those lots / places around, not so many like handing out cash money though.

They are finance specialists often with RAC Banners and a 84 point RAC check & 6 months RAC Warranty & 12 Months RAC Roadside assistance.

I’d recommend PistonHeads as a place to market a vRS too. There’s a good community on there - I sold my car within a week on PH, albeit a little more specialist (JCW GP Mini).

Could try Tootle.com to sell to dealers.  I've recently used it and it worked for me. It doesn't cost anything more than a bit of time to put an ad up. Just be brutally honest about any faults so the buyer has no excuse to haggle when they come for the car.

I've sold all of my 2-3 year old cars via AutoTrader. Apart from the call-centre timewasters (people trying to sell your car for you at comission), I have been extremely happy with them. Last time it cost me about £60 to advertise, but I received >£2000 more than WBAC or the local Skoda Delaer were offering.

 

So long as the car has been well cared for and the price is reasonable, Privately sold cars should sell quickly. I would much rether buy directly from the original owner, than from a dealer or at auction.

 

edit: My VRS TSI will be sold via AT once I have decided what car to replace it with.

Is that an 'as seen in person' quote or just an online valuation from wbac?

 

Money for your motors paid me more for my Audi than wbac offered online. wbac would have then knocked it down a few hundred at least. Check independent reviews for them. most saying pleasant salesmen but  infuriated by very inflated online offers compared to final after inspection offer.

 

I say place the ad and sell yourself if confident of the car.

Online quote. I was anticipating the bull**** when dropping off. That's why I want to sell privately. I don't mind paying, I'm just surprised to see so few mk3 vrs for sale, but I suppose if it really is that I'm a rarity that bought rather than leased (albeit a 6 month old car than new) there probably aren't a lot on the market.

 

I've also seen Tootle.com today that is another seller portal. I might give that a bash.

 

Car is absolutely mint and as it's still under warranty, I would like to think I can ask a higher price than other private sellers....but there aren't any....so I can't :(

You Sir, are a gem. I've listed it, got a call in minutes with an offer almost the same as I wanted from a private sale and £1000 better than my WBAC offer.

 

I'll happily drop a little bit as it saves £50 straight off from not listing on Autotrader and I don't have to put up with the test pilots at weekends. Fingers crossed it all goes through ok.

If anyone wanted closure. It was a very simple and painless process. From listing to offer was half an hour and collection was the next day with no haggling over the condition. Would definitely recommend. Car collected by an ex traffic copper and felt rather strange seeing my car for the last time :(

I wish i had have heard of these a while ago when i sold my A4.

 

Didn't do too badly with Money for your Motor's, although i think it could have been bettered a bit, I hate all the unnecessary middle-middle man crap in a lot of cases.

Would have preferred it to have been sold to a direct seller rather than to a seller (middle-middle man) to a seller.

Really pleased it worked out well for you. It seems a great way to sell, I would definitely use them again.
