Protective Paint Film

Featured Replies

Good Day

Has anyone used 3M film protectors?  Generally they seem to get reasonable reviews on Amazon but some mixed reviews on youtube.  I ask because everytime I have sold a car I have to spend money on getting scuffs and scratches sorted at a paint shop and they ain't cheap.  I do all the usual things using either Autoglym or Meguiars' products.  Both OK but obviously useless against scratches etc.

Places I wld like to protect are sills, bumpers and the inside of door handles.  Not that bothered about a bonnet bra as that looks expensive and appears as if it needs to be applied by a professional.  I also noticed that 3M venture Shield is only supplied thro approved installers.

PS - I have only had the car a couple of weeks and already I have scratched the rear bumper with a garage door I have only been using for 6 years (80 quid thank you very much - shld not complain too much as I now have a wonderful relationship with the bloke who runs the local paint shop).

It is a car, it will get minor dings and scratches - don't worry about it.

Fully aware of that but I wld rather send 40 quid on a bit of plastic (if it works) than the 450 I spent on getting the Jag tarted up.

A car it may be, an expensive purchase, but I've just spent just shy of £70 to get a supermarket ding out of my drivers door, caused by some inconsiderate @rse who couldn't be bothered to stop his door hitting mine.      :wall:

Modern paint is soft, wife only drives her car (Skoda Rapid) around town and already had some of the front resprayed to get rid of lots of stone chips, and scratch by someone with a shopping bag along the front wing. My car (Superb) has Suntek film on everything from the mirrors forward. Nearly 4k so far since June lots of motorway and country tracks, zero stone chips and the scratch one of my (very inconsiderate) neighbours tried to put in my car healed with a little buff and some sunshine. But maybe an expensive solution if you aren't going to keep the car long term. Have brought chrome stick on bits to protect the door handles (got chipped in a supermarket car park) and boot lip on her car now, all from Superskoda and work well.

I've had 3M VentureShield to a previous car as a bumper protector.  I had it fitted by a local detailing company.  IIRC it cost me £30.

Well worth it IMO as I have bikes in and out of my boot on a daily basis and a stray pedal could cause some damage.   A guy at work has it fitted to the stone chip hotspots on his RS7.  Whoever carried out the work done a great job as it was barely noticeable.

Thanks for the help chaps.  Some good advice which I will be acting on.

Agree entirely re current paintwork - it looks nice but it damages easily.  On the last Jag I caught the sill with the plastic end of the vac and it left a scratch I cld not buff out.  I am sick of forking out cash to get things sorted when I sell privately.  On another topic I am well pleased with the Superb.  Early days yet but it makes me wonder why I paid so much for the Jags - probably because I liked them when I was a kid and badge snobbery.
