Headlight adjuster not working...stuck on highest setting

Featured Replies

Hi all newbie here,

My headlight adjuster isn't working so my lights are stuck on the highest setting and I keep getting flashed by other drivers at night.

Can't find the fuse for the motors.

Please help! Thanks

Are you saying when carrying load in the back you cant adjust them down?

Otherwise they are adjusted wrongly if you have them in their normal position and they are blinding people.

Check the connections on the back of the headlights first, It sounds as it the switch may be at fault if both wont adjust.

Or have you replaced the bulbs and need to check whether the bulbs are correctly seated, it's so easy to assume they are seated correctly when they are not. Most of us have made this mistake.

But are you saying the lights are blinding people when the car is empty or loaded.

Empty

Then your headlights are not correctly adjusted. The level control dips the lights not raises them. It should be on the highest setting when the car is empty.

You need to get the headlight aim set first to stop people flashing you, then you can look at the problem with the motors

They're set now so how do I fix the motors please

Start off by getting someone to use the adjustment switch and then test the voltage on the motors. There are 3 wires going into each motor so trial and error as to which do what but one will be a ground.

If nothing shows up on either motor then its likely to be your switch at fault as i don't think there is a fuse for those motors.

On a Galaxy I had with similar adjusters, the motor for adjusting had burnt out

The headlight range adjustment fuse as it is correctly known is in the fuse box below the steering wheel and if you check your owners manual it should be listed as fuse no 2, I have the same problem on my daughter in laws car and have checked the fuse and even replaced the tilt switch next to the main light switch with no joy. I need to check the voltages to the motors and then if this is good, then the next step is to remove the hightlights to get access to the adjustment motors. Removing headlights on the car is a complete pain in the butt, first you have to remove the wheel arch linnings to get access to two Torx screws located on the top of the lip on the wing panels (2 scews each side) then you have the joy or completely removing the front bumper to get clear access to the headlight mounting screws.

There are 3 screws holding each headlight in place, best to mark the location of the mounting brackets with a fine marker or even masking tape so when you come to but them back you fit the light exactly as it was otherwise you may have to re-set you headlight allignment. There is one screw / mounting bracket located on the side of the wingpanel, one screw / mounting bracket located on the top and one screw / mounting backet located on the bottom inter corner hidden behind the radiator grill when its in place.

When the light / lights are out of the car the motors are accessed throught the main bulb access hole, see sKoda workshop manual for how to remove each motor, be careful not to damage the small plastic rob / ball connector which connects the motor to the light lens

That sounds like the Fabia Mk2 to me. The fuses on the MK1 are on the end of the dash and fuse 2 is brake lights.

  1. Yep sorry guys Lee is correct I was talking about the Fabia MK2, I had the same problem with my wifes car and had just looked in the handbook before logging onto the site. My wifes car isn't blinding everyone but the guy at the MOT centre failed the car becasue it wasn't working. Never even seen it tested on MOT before 😞

Fuse 6 on a mk1 in the fuseholder on the end of the dash; for what it's worth.
