not surprised really - but good luck to McLaren trying to get another driver who will manage to eke as much out of their car as he has been able to

Can I be mystic meg and make a ridiculous prediction that Button will come back ?

He wasn't as fast as Alonso, so refer to your first sentence?

They might take Sainz or perhaps Perez will come back. Or both. From McLaren comments they're unlikely to run both Vandoorne and Lando Norris.

I reckon Sainz / Perez + Norris, for experience and potential, with the other one going to Williams to replace Stroll. Stoffel's F1 career looks like it may be over before it gets started.

Is Marko living in cloud-cuckoo land?

Honda's mighty R&D resources that he refers to, have so far in 4 years produced - the slowest engine on the grid every year.

The only guaranteed improvement for RBR next year is the $100 million or so on the balance sheet that won't be flowing out of the team to Renault.

They are paying Max a shed load of cash so it had better be good. Oh, wait a minute ...

Well well. Last week Ocon was quoted " A works Mercedes seat is only a matter of time". Now it looks like there may not be any seat left at all for him next year. Lol.

Mercedes can't even offer a DTM ride since they're quitting that series too.

Sure, but that's because Lawrence Stroll is buying his wee boy an F1 team rather than because of any failing on Esteban's part.

Yeah but Ocon already knew that when he started talking.

I think he's a real talent, but lots of guys have been flavour of the month for a few years and never got a big chance.

The only likely seat is at Williams, and even then only if Mercedes pay a lot for it because they're not flush for cash.

I can't see Ocon wanting to be at the back of the grid though.

In my opinion several persons made the wrong decision in Q3. Where Spa-Francorchamps is known  for partly very circuit where the other part is bone dry, and unreliable wheater forecast when the wheater is changing, you can't count on these predictions to be secure and right in a narrow time window (few minutes). So Redbull and Kimi Raikkonen made the wrong choice to calculate on the wheater forecast and run on low fuel. Also the fact that Q3 is only 12 minutes, combined with the long distance track (so you need a lot of time to complete the outlap) makes that gambling can be very expensive.

Is it possible that the Moto GP from Silverstone was still more exciting than the F1 from Spa, even though it was cancelled?

Though Tito Rabat perhaps should be suing Silverstone for sending riders out is such conditions.

Rims voluntary bailout at 100 mph, rather than hit the lake of water of the track is one amazing video.

Kimi Raikkonen - the fastest man in F1! Discuss.

Not very often no. Vettel almost always takes him to the cleaners in Q3. Today Kimi got a great lap and a helpful tow and put it on pole. So fastest man of the 2 in the fastest F1 car - once.

Fastest lap speed ever today at 163. Not amazing really, considering Rosberg managed a smidge under 161 mph 33 years ago at Silverstone on a damp track - he'd already done 160 with a slow puncture.

Rosberg's lap was awesome in an era when the cars were a real handful to drive. In comparison, Kimi's lap seemed like your granny could have driven it!

And for the youngsters out there, a nice summary of that historic event is here: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/features/2015/7/maximum-attack---the-day-rosberg-averaged-160mph-around-silverst.html

And my original comment was a little tongue in cheek, as I'm sure you recognised.

On Monza the fastest lap time is mainly about the engine, a bit about the chassis and for a very small part about the driver. The championship is about races, and lap records aren't the most important about that. When you check the speed traps results, it is very rare that the race winner, has the highest speed at the speed trap. The drivers capacity becomes more important when the circuit track is more challenging (read slower), and engine power is less important.

I didn't expect Hamilton t win today, after qualifying it looked like a Ferrari 1-2 in the race,

Max moved in the braking area, but seemed surprised when he got a penalty.
