Sounds like the Con government talking about how much more they have done for the NHS.  What is the real figures in millions of dollars per year against inflation?

Sounds like a response in the Guardian.

Petronas are still actively sponsoring Mercedes and F1.

I understand that Petronas involvement in MOTO GP is with a Yamaha satellite team.

the way he's been driving in the first few races, it wouldn't be a surprise if Max ended up in the front row of the grandstand / marina

  • As usual the super-mature Max and Seb both laid the blame for their collisions on the other party. The stewards disagreed with those opinions.   W4nkers both.

Grauniad is a turncoat rag that supported the LibDems in 2010 which resulted in the colation of chaos which has seen the UK national debt double since then.

There is not a decent newspaper in the UK, do like Private Eye, particularly this week....

...and I am no arts university lecturer being one of the poor souls who has to try and make BREXIT even work on  a practical level

Anyway as George Orwell said, I think, Four wheels good, two wheels better.

Are you still having to work? you always struck me as someone who'd have his feet up in comfortable retirement way earlier than me. After a year of it, I can recommend professional loafing by the way, 55 is a great age to be free.

Wow, Just read Cyril Abiteboul's comment post Hungary and their multi barrelled slagging off from RBR.

The boss of Renault F1, in not so many words he said - Red Bull can go F*** themselves,

He did actually say "Our bosses haven't listened to a word Christian Horner has said since 2015"

And he went on to say that Honda have paid a fortune to buy their spot in the back of the Red Bull, so good luck to them.

I'll admit I thought Renault had suffered more engine failures but when checking back, I think they had one with Hulk and thats about it. Lot's of other issues but the engines seem robust.

The Honda does seem to be running far better in the TR this season compared to the McLarens last season, I am looking forward to seeing what way it goes when RB use them.

Fantastic, you manage to get Brexit into a discussion regarding Petronas sponsoring Mercedes F1.

it is a combination of  enjoying my job and being so worth while to be able to dump tens of thousands per year in to my pension pot so I can enjoy retirement to the max.  In my job I get to move Astons, Ferraris, McLarens all over the world amongst a heap of other fascinating aerospace and other industry sectors.

It is great to pass 55 years old in some ways ie knowing one can tap in to ones pension pot and potentially be in the place where one chooses to work and that puts one in a strong position work wise as one can choose how much, or if, to work.

My toughie will be when I automatically get my civil service lump sum and pension at 60 as I do not think I can defer it so I will pay tax on the pension income but then I suppose i stick if more of any work earnings in to the pension pot.  Cross that bridge in a few years time when turn 60.  I expect much of my retirement time will be following bike and car racing round the world, jut hope F1 eventually gets more interesting.  Who would have thought turbos would have made cars harder to overtake rather than easier.   Looking forward to the new Formula-e cars later this year.

I could have stayed at work till 60 but SWMBO pointed out no-one knows how long retirement will be, so I started it earlier, paid off the mortgage and started making plans... and going on lots of holidays B)

If they don't run well, it will be the end of RBR under the RBR monica anyway. Will be funny to hear Alonso and Verstappen radio :) They should have their own show.

Although Grojean has to be the host :)

Still plan to go on hoildays even when working, nice to be paid for that time too and one hopes they miss me lots when I am away.  I recall you are a big Americas visitor and I am doing my first visit across the pond for a while ie a Rockies fly drive from Calgary to Vancouver, hopefully a Chevy Impala which has got to be one of the longest running car names of all time, bit like the Enfield Bullet is for bikes.  Somebody told me that back in the sixties sometime that one in ten cars in the world made was an Impala.   Hope to live to 90 or even 100, my family tends to do that so hope the genes do not let me down.  60 would do me fine so only just over 1,000 days to go then tramping round the world following motorsport and cricket.

I did read that the design restraints for the Honda engine in the Mclaren caused it to overheat if run at full power, so perhaps the problems will have been ironed out by the time RB receive the Honda unit.

Dani R told Red Bull goodbye and that he is joining Renault apparently.

Renault  comment on Horner must have been the last straw that no point sticking around with Red Bull after such a poor way of working with an engine manufacturer and better to be with a homongenised team of chassis and engine.   Just need Adrain Newy to move also and then back to the glory days of Renault  being up there with Ferrari for prolonged stints.

I can why Richardo has had enough. Renault need to come up with a better car and fix the engine gremlins though.

I guess Ricciardo didn't want to end up being the number three driver in a one driver team. Red Bull are their own worst enemy, they have moaned and bitched about the Renault engine since the new era and at one point threatened to find another engine supplier as well as threatening to leave F1. Net result they have ended up with the Honda engine.

Renault have had more success as an engine supplier than as a team. Williams and Red Rull with a Renault engine have had 114 wins, where as Team Renault have had 35 wins since 1977.

Certainly a massive vote of no confidence in Honda. Gasly has had occasionally posted good results with it, but Riccardo presumably was party to the data RBR used to make the decision to swap, and it wasn't enough to make him stay.

Certainly STRs points total this year is very low, about half of what the awful McLaren team have managed, and less than half of what the bankrupt Force India squad have achieved with their worst car for many years.

I remember thinking hamilton was mad leaving for Mercedes...

and that is why we're human, without all the facts we'll guess wrong, but it's fun in doing so.

Ferrari caught merc up, although with the budget they have it was hard to comprehend it not happening.

New engine regs here, a rule change there, might just shake it up. Renault have taken a beating from RBR who it seems from various coverage ( channel 4) , seem to be one of the few teams who let you in. Like Leman rule about not now closing/walling the garage while working, let us in, it's why we're here. If I was Saubers/Mcl, whoever PR, I'd be giving my left pinky to get 2 mins Q&A during a race. I don't think it's that frantic during a race/procession.

McLaren are suffering from what used to be Ferrari’s problem, you can either make good road cars or have a great F1 team. Currently the McLaren A Team are concentrated on road cars, leaving F1 as best efforts in many areas.

I thought they were essentially operated as two separate companies?

Yeah they are, but I don't think that's the underlying issue.

The most successful F1 teams over history have all had a dictator. Alfred Neubauer, Enzo Ferrari, Tony Vandervell, Charles Cooper, Colin Chapman, Ron Dennis, Bernie Ecclestone, Frank Williams, Helmut Marko.

SInce Mclaren lost their Hitler figure, the team has gone to pot.

Zak Brown and co couldn't invade the next industrial unit in Woking, let alone annex the Sudetenland and take Czechoslovakia.

Papa Stroll (and friends) buys Force India.

Good news for them, terrible for Williams who now are surely losing both Martini and Stroll money before next season.

Odds on for next summer's bankrupt F1 team?

Zak Brown says McLaren were very close to signing Riccardo.

Yeah. Right. I think Zak's even more deluded now than I did before.

In other McLaren news - long time team owner Mansoor Ojjeh has become the latest big name pushed out of the McLaren F1 door.

Who's next? Alonso or Brown?

I thought that at first but apparently they have a lot of interests outside of F1 making healthy figures and get a reasonable cut of the 'heritage' money or whatever it's called. Apparently they have stopped development of this seasons car too so they can get the jump on the new cars next year.

I hope they survive but who knows in F1?
