front left window has fallen inside door!

Featured Replies

Hi all, so my passenger side window on my 2002 Fabia Silverline fell down this morning, slipped down slightly after one pothole and then fell completely into the door after the second.. thankfully with a clunk and not a smash!!! i feel the regulator is probably ok but the clips are broken, anybody know whether i'll be able to DIY it? and how to get the window back up in the meantime?

thankfully i managed to get it up for now using a coat hanger and it's held up by a strip of Gaffa rolled up at the ends. waiting for a dry day to look at it properly now :(

Quite a common problem, I believe, so a search within this subforum should find a few threads. It's one of those things that's more of a 'when' than an 'if' it happens.

Yours will have a bolted on ancillaries carrier which makes it much easier than the riveted equivalent.  There's a how-to for removing this in the Fabia Guides section, but I suspect the pictures may have been murdered by Photobucket.  You can buy a whole replacement carrier assembly including the window regulator (but not motor) for not much money from motor factors, which may be easier than repairing the broken bit alone, or not depending on skill/patience levels.

think you can buy the clips alone now (if that's the problem) from ebay ---years back I had to buy the lot (and from Audi) ouch £70+

It happened on my wife's fabia, I bought this

It took a couple of hours to do it, it wasn't as hard for me as everyone made out but it is definitely a two person job putting the cables on as they try and fall out of place.

Have a look on eBay you can get a regulator that's already fitted to the panel. Makes the job much easier

Having gone the "clips only" route, it's a fiddly job. Springs on the regulator must be fully compressed and the cables are "just" long enough. You need a clamp or jig to hold the springs in whilst faffing with the cable ends in the clips. Would be much the same with the cables and regs kits apart from they sometimes supply a temporary retainer to hold the springs in. Make sure you get the right bits if going for a proper kit or the whole reg. There are electric and manual winder versions.

My main PITA was removing the central locking connector. I also tried butyl sealant rope as the carrier seal. Turned into a bit of a sticky mess... But it semms it's not leaked yet.
