Kodiaq cockpit retrofit in China

Who know what's part number of LCD cockpit for kodiaq , the China guy has been retrofit LCD cockpit in kodiaq.

It doesn't look like a straight swap to me, quite a bit of adjustment needed to make it work.

The virtual cockpit works really well in the Audi TT or the R8 because it's the only screen. On other cars where there is a big screen in the middle of the car, I really don't see the need for it - especially if you're an Android Auto / Apple CarPlay user, because it won't display anything from those systems.

Their price is about £340 (based on 27 to 1 exchange rate ish), mind you my sums could easily be wrong or the exchange that I took it off:D.

That's probably not far off - no idea about sales tax / VAT etc. over there and if that would be included in that price. I think it's probably safe to assume that when available over here it will be roughly £400-£500 as an option... that seems to be the going rate on VWs where you can add it.

Still don't see the point / need though :-)

Having satnav`s maps just in front of your eyes is the point for me.

The dashboard is not in front of your eyes. It is below your line of sight - you have to look away from the road to look at the dashboard just as much as you do to look at the screen in the middle of the car. Also, there is too much information on a map - you can’t just glance at it and see the detail you need. Much better (in my opinion of course) to have the directional instructions and countdowns that you get with the normal segment / maxi dot displays, as that’s a lot easier to follow than a map as you approach a turning / junction.

Don’t get me wrong - these digital dashboards look cool... I just don’t see the need (and yes, I have driven cars with them in).

I know it`s below, but at least it`s not at 4 o`clock somewhere down there, as Superb II has. I travel a lot and am using satnav all the time. Believe me, at the end of the day your neck and eyes are throwing sparks from innatural viewing angle. Having maps in dash will reduce it a lot.

These Maxidot arrows just do not work for me. Old habit driving by printed maps.

I'd like the digital dash and also HUD for the core, basic information that is required to drive safely. The maxidot is handy but I'm still taking my eyes off the road.

I know I don't need a digital dash - I just liked the one I tried out. As for a HUD, I think they should probably be mandatory in this day and age. Never seen them on any Skoda options though...

Who would by VW if Skoda had all it`s sweeties?

They work for me. Like "tulips" from my stage rallying days...

That's perhaps the problem.

Satnavs aren't maps.

Use the big display, occasionally, to get an idea of where you are, and what general direction(s) you are likely to be asked to go in in the next while.

Use mainly the sound (which maps don't have) and occasionally the simplified diagrams to make your moves.

Glance back at the (now zoomed in) big screen only when greater clarity is needed (fairly rare).

It certainly works for me - and I would hate to have “only” the detailed map (ie without the helpful quick-glance clarity and countdown indication) in between the main dials.

Yeah, you can`t teach old horse new tricks...

I ve seen some of the cases where people did a retrofit of the virtual cockpit for the Kodiaq, but the information is really scarce on the internet?

Anybody has information if this is possible (obviously people have done it) and where we could do it and for what price? :)

Thanks!

Before fitting a virtual cockpit, check to see it that will not invalidate the warranty first.   ;)

Somebody in Germany (who works for Skoda) can do the retrofitting for you for I think € 1500,-. Most of this is spend on parts.  Only approx € 150,- for the labour.

Any contact information about this person?

Also, would the normal Skoda garages engage in an activity like that? I do not see why they would not do it...

The part number for the LCD cockpit is the same for both the Kodiaq and the Karoc:  56920790

It is currently available from this Czech supplier: http://www.eskoda-shop.cz/pristrojova-deska-35958/9361-Sdružený-přístroj-DIGITÁLNÍ-565920790

Wowzer, 38,000 CZK (Czech Koruna) = £1,315 GBP, just for the virtual cockpit itself.

Given the requirement for a working speedo and dash warnings for the MOT I'd hate the thought of having to replace one out of warranty in 3 or more years time  :o

Sounds like a heck of a mark up on that by someone in the supply chain or Skoda.

If they can 'supply' them now, why can't the 'fit' them now??
