Vibration felt through floor when braking

Featured Replies

People put on hand / parking brakes when stopped for prolonged times at traffic lights roadworks etc in the UK, as per the UK Highway Code.

Some do, those that remember how they were taught to drive, and who remember the Highway code.

Cultural thing it seems when overseas drivers seem amazed at drivers being considerate.

These people that drive a Citigo that hard that they are on the brakes all the time heating up discs to the point of warping still amaze me,

Many drivers do commutes and journeys with the minimum of touching the brake pedal.

Even driving sportingly.

Overactive ESP must be something to do with the heat the discs are getting to in normal within UK speed limit driving even if the hand brake is used,

other than for Hand Brake turns obviously,  but then the complaint is about discs not rear drums.

  • The only vibration I felt was the other day when I braked on the road to my home which was icy and the ABS kicked in. Quite reassuring really .  The only probs I've had has been the occasional squeak

  • I find it hard to believe that "hot spot" theory. I haven't have that problem in other car than Citigo. And I have owned quite many cars. And I don't have the problem with Citigo now when I have EBC U

  • It’s because when your braking to a stop your creating heat so if you don’t lift of the brake when your stationary the heat is trapped between the disc and pad creating the hot spot. Obviously it isn’

UK highway code requires handbrake use to avoid dazzling drivers behind in traffic.

And you have traffic lights on the highways? :wondering:

Amazingly the vehicles are on the highways so that is where the traffic lights and junctions and temporary road works are and where gridlock or delays happen.

Pedestrian crossing as across the highway as well.

Funny thing is it has been like that for decades, and before high level center brake lights or even bulbs that are that brights.

When you can have rainy wet weather drivers and other road users are not fans of sitting behind a vehicle with brake lights shining unnecessarily.

Some vehicles have Auto Hold now where the brake lights are on, and some that have them not on,

and that can be on a Skoda, VW, Seat or Audi,  some drivers might not even know which the car they are driving has, on or off.

Does your highway code say that you should dimm your instrument cluster when it's dark? Because that's more important for seeing than braking lights in front of you when traffic isn't mowing. :D

People maybe just do that through common sense. ?   If you sit at a railway crossing or at road works in the rain,   maybe waiting for farm animals to clear a road, and with traffic behind and around Do you just keep you foot on the brake peddal for several minutes? Or longer.

No because it ruins brake discs,  I've been told.
