Buying and fitting a new headlamp bulb (dipped)...

Shame on you indeed, there are many counties where you wouldn't even be allowed to drive if you couldn't carry a spare bulb and change it yourself.

In the UK?????????????

Typo, missing r.

I'd struggle to change my Audi headlight bulb on the road, as the bumper has to come off to do it.

Best you don't drive it abroad then :)

Thanks again all the helpful advice.  Handy to know that any H7 will fit.  I wasn't sure if there was more to it, such as type of bulb, wattage, or any other type of spec.  In fact, I still don't know what the H7 refers to...  Whether it is the fitting, the type, a standard, etc.  I guess it doesn't really matter.  If I know all H7s are good for this car, then I've got the knowledge that I need.

Should have the bulbs tomorrow.  For the sake of completion I'll come back and let you know how I got on.  Either that or I'll be back with swear words and more questions!

Its just to describe the type of bulb used in terms of the fitment. Probably some reasoning behind what the numbers refer to.

dipped headlight bulbs are probably hardest off all to change so once you've mastered it you should be able to change any others easily.

Well, I've just been out and done them and must admit it was a lot easier than expected.  Doing both took a little less than 5 minutes I reckon.  And there seemed to be plenty of space on the passenger side without having to remove anything.  Perhaps my battery is situated differently???

Anyhow, it was made easier by knowing WHAT to do - so thanks to everyone for the help and advice.

NEXT - Seeing as I've got the nicer bulbs in, I want to look at how to brighten up the headlamps-  They're currently looking quite dull and misted.  I think I remember seeing some threads about what to do so I'll go hunt them down.  If I'm unclear I'll start a new thread rather than go off topic on this one.

If youve got a petrol fabia its likely the battery is mounted further back hence the extra space available.

Restoring the lenses is quite straightforward. A kit like this would be the simplest way providing you own a drill.https://www.amazon.co.uk/3M-Headlight-Restoration-Discoloured-Headlights/dp/B0078IHJ1K/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1516539316&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=headlight+restoration+kit&psc=1

if not you can use wet and dry sandpaper up to a grit of 2500 to get rid of the yellow, then finish with some good polish.

Mine's petrol but the battery is mounted right up to the headlight. Must be some variation in them.

My old 1.2 had it set back, no airbox though

Thanks for that tip and link.

Having read a few other threads, someone mentioned that Quixx pack:

http:// https://www.amazon.co.uk/Quixx-Headlight-Restoration-Lens-Sealer/dp/B0072AWXZ6

Not sure if this is exactly the same pack, but even cheaper here if so (£10):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/QHRK1-Reliable-Headlight-Restoration-Polishing/dp/B00BHUPHSC/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_263_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6Q4C5690BGBFZZ733WFT

Might give that a go and save the pennies... As an added bonus it "includes a sealer to prevent reoccurance" which I don't think the 3M kit does.  It means a bit of elbow grease, but hey, I'm happy with that.  Helps keep me fit!

Has anyone here ever used the Quixx kit?

I'd imagine that would be fine, just includes some sandpaper and some compound polish.

As long as you take time with it you will see noticeable improvement.
