507.00 engine oil 0w 30 or 5w 30 for fabia pd 1.9td vrs 130bhp and octavia 3 2.0 td 150bhp

Featured Replies

1) 505.01 is the pd engine oil suitable for Skoda fabia vrs 1.9td. Engine oil with this specification is available or was in 5w30 or 5w40.

Q. This has been superseded with 5w30 507.00 low saps which can be used in fabia  pd engine?

2) Now the bit I am clueless about. Can I use a 507.00 oil that is 0w 30 when the manufacturer recommends 5w 30 grade?

All above oils are fully synthetic.

I know the first number is the cold oil viscosity.  0w is better at low temp than 5w.

I was looking at some Shell engine oils are 0w 30 came up as the 'premium oil' .

I ve been using the 505.01. 5w30 helix.  Hx7.In the fabia.

507.00 5w30 grade in Octy. Was going to use this in fabia vrs pd also.

Why is 0w30 premium? Ie 1st pick? I once had a Xantia diesel and dealer said i could not go to 10w 40 from 15w40 , both non synthetic. Is this a similar scenario?

From shell oil lubematch finder

Don't get hung up on the viscosity, the VAG spec. is what matters and 507.00 is just peachy for PD engines.

I would stick to the 5-30 or 5-40 oils that meet 505.01 or supersede it

It's getting harder to find oils to meet the older spec. because they've been superseded by the newer spec. 507.00 has been tested and approved by VAG for older PD engines so there's absolutely no reason not to use it.

The viscosity guidelines are obsolete because 0W oils did not meet 505.01 spec. back when it was written, now they exceed it which is why they meet 507.00.

Come on guys, this isn't rocket science, it's tribology.

Anyone know any 0w 30 507.00 engine oils?

Is there any benefit to using 0w 30 for the fabia 1 pd or the octavia 3 in winter?

Better to stick with 5w 30 507.00 engine oil and change more frequently?

Nope, not unless you live near the arctic circle, it's more to do with reduced parasitic loss leading to slight improvements in economy and performance.

No need to change more frequently, 507.00 is suitable for extended drain intervals.

If you register and log in to erWin Skoda you can view a pdf of approved 507.00 oils (or any other classification) via a link on RHS of front page. There are a few 0W-30 oils there, but the vast majority are 5W-30.

Dude, you're BRUTALLY overthinking this, just change the oil already, you could have had it done by now, as long as it meets the appropriate VAG specs. it's fine, there is no "this oil is better than this oil" nonsense these days, all synthetic oils are good stuff, it's the additive pack that's important and that's dictated by the spec.

Currently using 5 w 30 507.00 Quantum in Octavia 3 and intend on using it in the Fabia 1VRS. I'll stick with 5w 30 507.00 then. There was an offer on some 0w 30 oil from Shell, which looked tempting, hence the questions and your advice. Thanks.

The Quantum 5W30 is known as Longlife 3 which is specified for vehicles with DPF's and extended changes, while the Quantum 5W40 is known as Platinum - bit more detail in below.

It is the Longlife 3 I have on the shelf at home. 5w30 507.00

I bought the last of the Castrol made stuff at discount. I think Fuchs make it now (2017 mid on-)

Q. I've seen 5w30 and 5w40 (both 505.01) on this site recommended for Fabia 1 VRS. Can I use 5w30 507.00 (less engine sludge produced) longlife 3 from quantum with the fabia?

I had been using shell hx7 505.01 5w30 (20litre drum).

The dealer said he would use 5w30 instead of 5w40 but gave no reason.

A quick search said either 5w30 or 5w40 as long as the oil was 507.00 (additive pack in it is most important).....But, in the same post 5w40 was promoted by a mechanic friend, particularly if 505.01 had been used previously (which it obviously was, because of the age of the oil).
