sizing winter wheels/tyres

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a trusted source of technical information on compatible winter tyres and wheels?  I've been through Skoda customer services twice and am suspicious of the different responses.  Two dealership garages just didn't know.

I want to buy a set of steel wheels or cheap alloys for my 2016 L&K.  It currently has the standard 18" Pegasus anthracite alloys with 235/45 R18's.  And I want to know what my specification options are.  A few years back I had a Passat and went through the same bother.  Any number of companies were happy to tell me what to get but never more than one option and never based on a known spec or guidance.  I ended up talking to a VW technical department who were able to give me a range of options.  And interestingly for me, their preferred spec was not one recommended by suppliers, probably because it was cheaper and not the same size tyre or wheel.

Thanks

Check these guys out.

I used them a few years ago and all was good. I when for cheap alloys as opposed to steel, but all very good.

Chimaera posted this very helpful info a week or two back but I don't think it covers your model. Might be worth asking where he got the info to see if you can find the same for your exact model.

<< It seems that there's at least a thread per week on the topic of swapping wheels on the Superb 2, mostly people looking to downsize from the 18" wheels to something with a bit more sidewall. I'm starting this thread to gather as much relevant information as possible together in one place. If a mod or admin could make it a sticky, that would be really useful too.

The following tables show the type-approved fitments for the original (pre-facelift) cars (Model Years 2008-2013) and the facelifted cars (Model Years 2014-2015). These wheel and tyre size combinations can be fitted to the Superb 2 without having to worry about offset, wheelarch rub or any of the other worries that tend to accompany wheel change plans. There should also be no issue with clearing the brakes. The only model where this may be called into question is the 3.6 petrol as it doesn't have type approval for 16" wheels: this may be due to brake sizing issues. If someone has looked into this it would be useful information.

Regarding insurance, the general consensus on changing wheel size is that you should discuss any change with your insurer but that using a type-approved size should cause no issues.

Pre-facelift on the left, facelift on the right.
