What's 8 + 2 ?

Featured Replies

Just noticed that according to Skoda UK spec for the SE model it comes with Bolero infotainment and 8 speakers plus another 4 speakers, so why not just say 12 speakers in the first place ? ;):tongueout:

4 are loud speakers and not standard speakers. Usually the 4 tweeters in the doors that your voice commands and phone connections play through.

at least that’s my understanding of it

I suspect yet another example of confusion from Skoda UK (aka VW Group UK).  And if it is an additional 4 speakers, additional to what, since the SE model is the lowest spec currently on the UK market?

In the Oct 2017 price/spec sheet they said the SE had an "Increased standard fuel filling quantity" but that has been removed from the latest document (I believe it only relates to the 2.0 TDi models).

I do find Skoda UK's proof reading particularly poor.  And their brochures/web information is not always very informative, typically focusing on top level specs and not explaining well (if at all) what a particular feature really does (eg Rear LED lights (high functionality) does not turn out to be all LED lighting at the rear).

Elsewhere on this forum we find contributors querying what feature comes with their cars, sometimes to get understandably annoyed when their car does not come with the feature they expected.  This cannot be good for business.  Although I do accept some customers have no idea exactly what spec they are looking to receive, a car being a simple means of transport to them and so are probably not too bothered what turns up.

Modern cars are so much more complex (especially the infotainment systems) that I think manufacturers need to spend more time explaining what you can expect to receive - this could easily be on their web sites rather than in a brochure which could end up too thick and too anorak-like for the average purchaser.

And last time I checked VW don't produce UK market brochures any more.............

Good point. We did get a brochure for the Karoq, but every picture of the car had the comment "Car shown may not be UK Spec" so why put it in a UK brochure? With the Karoq, it doesn't mention rear wash wipe in the spec for any trim level, but I believe they all have it.  But I suspect it's not just Skoda.

You'll probably find that instead of 2 speakers per door (tweeter and mid/woofer), there will be 3 (tweeter, mid and woofer).

It might also include a factory amplifier to drive all 12 too.

Out of interest do you know of any recent (say going back 10 years) hatchback, estate, SUV or similar that doesn't have rear wash/wipe?

Only saloons and sports cars (unless has a hatch) as far as I know.

I take your point, but in the spec, it does mention that they have front wipers and I guess most cars have them as well

My Superb Sportline doesn’t have a rear wiper, though technically a hatch, its supposed to be saloon style I guess.

It used to be a no-cost option on the Hatches (not sure if thats still the case though)
