Hello, everyone!

I have been reading thru the forum for the last couple of weeks while my ordered car is being delivered. It is 220, grey metallic color in style trim which is the top trim before the L&K and Sport package.

In my country we can't have cars customized, so we have 3-4 trim levels with standard options for each.

1-Headlights

My car will have xenon adaptive headlights but without whiskers, eyelashes, smart light assist. I really love how the whiskers look, so I really want to retrofit those. I know that I need to replace my headligths for that to work, and I am willing to do so. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to retrofit the whiskers? I know that I would have to add a camera in the front for SLA to work, but I dont need the SLA functions, all I need is whiskers))

Or maybe I could just cut out whiskers from newly order lights and install in my current one? Or maybe even install some aftermarket leds in the current whiskers? Basically whatever it takes)))

2-Cornering fog lights

The car comes with those, but from what I've seen, the way it works is that when you turn you steering say to the right, the right fog light turns on. I think that looks ugly and odd when you have only one fog light on. People around you might be thinking that one of my fog lights is not working. So, is it possible to change it so that BOTH fog lights come on when turning steering? If yes, will that require VCDC?

3-Will VCDC coding void the warranty?

4-Rims

The car comes with 17" stratos wheels. I really want to change those to 18"  8Jx18, but the default offset size ET44 for 18" rims is impossible to find in my country. But there are a lot of options for  18"  8Jx18 ET39, will this work?

If yes, do I still put the recommedned 18" size tires: 235/45ZR18 on them, or should I use different size because of the different offset?

5-Interior leather

The car comes with black leather. Is it real leather or fake one? How does it hold up after time? When I saw it at the dealership, it felt too soft in comparision to my previous 2012 E350 real leather seats.

6-Engine warming at idle

The dealer is offerring me to install remote start. I know some modern engines do warm much unless you start driving, the there is not much benefit in having remote start for those engines. What about this 220PSI engine? How fast does it warms at idle?

I know, these are a lot of questions, and some people might know answers to some of them and others to the other questions. So, please answer whatever question you have an answer for.

Thank you in advance!

1: You need the headlights, as you say. It´s quite a costly upgrade only for the whiskers. As you say, you need the A5 camera to get full functionality. In Denmark the Style has High Beam Assist as standard, which gives you the A5 camera. If that´s the case for your country as well, you only need the new headlights and some VCDS coding - you might already have the correct camera fitted.

2: No, and I´m not sure it would be legal for them to work that way. You can turn the function completely off, if you dislike it.

3: In most countries no. Maybe in the UK as they tend to have a funny take on most things :)

4: As far as I recall, the correct tire size can be found in the manual and in the brochure.

5: The leather on the seat surfaces is real. The back/side is "artificial".

6: I wouldn´t touch some aftermarket-crap like that, even if I got paid to take it. Warm up in idle is slow, burns unnecessary fuel and wear on the car. I wouldn´t do it.

Where do you live, just out of interest? It sounds quite far away.

Thanks for reply! I live in Kazakhstan. We have a skoda factory here, which kinda makes the skoda cars. But in really, the car that I ordered was assembled in India, and brought to Kazakhstan, and the local factory just puts engine, transmission, and wheels on the car. That is why we cannot get custom options.

As per you answers:

1-My headlight dont have camera, cos I dont have lane assist, or traffic recognition option. Ihave a printed hand out with all the options the car is coming with. Also, I dont need the full functionality to work. I just need the whiskers))) So, I wonder if I can get away without buying camera.

2-I dislike the way they look from the outside of the car, but I like the functionality itself when I am inside the car. So, to make it pleasant to look at for people who are looking at the car from the outside, it would be great to have both fog lights come on, and just one of them turning towards your turning direction.

4-My question was more regarding rim offset than tires. I am worried if it's gonna fit.

5-Great to know!

6-Here we have very cold winters, so people often use remote start kits to warm up the engine before they get in the car.

Thanks again for your input!

The only point I can comment on is 3. I think Škoda would find it very hard to refuse a warranty claim unless it related directly to a modification made with VCDS or resulted from any changes you made.

Are you looking for full remote engine start or just a pre-heater? (aka block heater, auxiliary heater)

Assuming it's a pre-heater you're after then Skoda use a Webasto unit so it is in effect the same kind as you would buy aftermarket. As GaSelle says, that preferable to a full engine start as it doesn't cause any additional engine wear, in fact it will in theory significantly reduce wear compared to doing cold starts.

Running the heater for 45-60 minutes will mean the water temperature is around 50C when you start the engine, with the oil temps catching up very quickly after you start the engine. Without it, and with ambient temperatures below freezing, it will be quite a few km before the engine is at that temperature.

4.

leave 17" for winter tires and take some non stock model of alloys for summer season

6.

if that were meant auxiliary preheating(Webasto), then it is a must have option!!!

then heated windscreen option can(must) be removed from list

there is huge list what you can add and improve in your car
(don't think russian will make problem for you, but if.., use Google Translate)

Thanks, I know what webasto is, unfortunately our dealer cannot install that. Only private shops. The thing that dealer is offering is just a remote start, not an auxiliary heater, and they are giving really great discount on it since I am buying car from them. So, I just want to know if I really need it. Cos if it takes the car say 60 minutes to get the oil heated up to the working temperature at engine idle, then there is no point in remote start.

4. Yes, that is acutally what I wanted to know. But my question was about the ET39 offset. I dont know if it will fit.

6. It's not webasto, it's regular remote start from brands like pandora, startline, magic car.

Hi to Wales as well))

Thanks for the input, I will ask my dealer and make sure they allow VCDC coding.

Re the cornering fog lights. I've tried turning mine off but it turns the option straight back on in front of my eyes. Tried it numerous times. Not a fan but I see more and more cars with them now so most people probably know what is happening when one is lit.

u can't "remove" the whiskers and retrofit it to a non-whiskered headlight.

if u going to buy an entire headlight unit which has whiskers - just use those headlights.  why take it out.

u don't have to enable/use the SLA part if u don't want it.

do an ebay search for 3V2941015B - this is the SLA capable headlight with whiskers that light up.

3V2941015A - is not SLA capable and does not have whiskers that light up.   it is HBA capable.

but u say u have no camera - so HBA will not work for ur car.

Thank you JR RS, I've seen this part number in other thread, but there was no info on if it is a plug and play work. Do you know if it is simple swap or will it require wire hardness configuration and vcdc coding?

Edited by axd1152

Yes, they will need coding - wiring should be the same as ‘normal’ xenon lamps. And just a ‘fyi’: it’s called VCDS ;)

I'm assuming it's plug & code - as @GaSelle mentioned.

I haven't retrofitted it myself, so I can't say for sure.

It will cost me $1200AUD plus to get a second hand pair from Europe to my doorstep.

For that price, I'll pass.
