Which options don't you use? What would you rather have had?

I wonder why people in Britain don't spec the aux heater more often as thats a really neat feature and you can just start it from your phone with a mobile app or then time from the cell so its always warm when you start to work for example. In the summer it works also as a ventilation so you can start the ventilation on hot sunny days before entering the car. I know we have a few degrees colder here in southern Finland then over there but its not exactly sunshine and paradise all year around there either :)

Absolutely. I use it far more than I thought I would, even when temperatures are not even freezing.

  • Are you aware of, that not all people have garages? The weather in the UK is perfect for AUX heaters. Cold, ****ty and wet most of the time - just like DK.

  • 1. Launch control. Never used it, probably never will. Agreed 2. Autopark. Used once, won’t use again. Love mine... but mainly for the extra sensors you get 3. Start-stop. Hate it with a pas

  • No, the boat is at the habour in Miami. And I’ll get there by my private jet, of course

Not an option for the UK market.

I seem to remember having a VW handbook from some years ago that gave instructions on using the auxiliary heater, but it was not an option in the UK. No need for in in reality, you could not use it if you garaged the car due to the fumes produced. Prefer to get the car out of the garage with nice clear windows myself.

That will be the mostly cold and sh-ity and wet parts of the UK then,

but do not believe the Daily Express on where they are.  Not many of the 30 million cars or however many really would benefit with AUX heaters.

Not that many even get wet weather or winter tyres fitted.

And most of the garages are too small for a Superb sized car as well.

What you should say is "many people have garages but are simply too idle to put their cars in them"

The Superb will fit in both of our garages. I don't think I would have bought one if it hadn't.

Hmmm, tricky one.

Came from a fully loaded Avensis to an SEL Exec Superb, so has some things the Avensis didn't and vice versa!

I love the guide home headlights and the self folding mirrors. Toyota had power fold mirrors, but on a button.

I miss the keyless entry / go a bit, but then the guide headlights would be pointless!

I had a pano roof on the Toyota, I do and I don't miss that. I imagine come summer, I won't miss it!

Self parking, very muck a gimmick I've only used to show off to mates / neighbours. I just prefer having the sensors and visual aid on the screen, I do miss the reverse camera a bit though.

I wish I had the kick to open boot thing, quite handy for me, and a heated windscreen would've been nice too!

DCC is nice, it was already on the car though. Probably wouldn't spec it myself.

Phonebox is great, I don't use the Wifi or Apple Car Play, but my iPhone X fits in the slot perfectly and charges, and no wires all over the place!

Auto hold is nice, Toyota also had a leccy handbrake but no auto hold which was a pain at times.

Start stop really doesn't bother me, I can take it or leave it.

I regret not going for the DSG this time!

Also got the traffic sign assist, lane assist etc. Nice and I do like it, I've never used the lane assist but I know in the snow it gets confused. Driving between Hull and Manchester at midnight last night in heavy snow, I had warning lights for ACC (I don't use it in snow anyway), lane assist was saying it was unavailable apparently (I'm guessing it couldn't see the lines), traffic sign assist was down too, but rather irritatingly, every now and again a lane marking would come into sight then go etc, so the fatigue warning was coming on constantly telling me to take a break!

I like the rain sensor option on mine too with the dimming mirrors, just because the all glass interior mirror looks stunning!

Oh, I have a spare wheel too. That's already been put into use, so very grateful for that one!

Whoever specced it though, rather kindly put lots of options on it... didn't bother with the £50 for heated washer jets though! That's not so fun!

Another pointless one that comes to mind is the rear climate control. 90% of the time, it's myself and one passenger in the car, and then the seats down and the boot full of gear... I guess it's nice to keep our guitars warm between jobs...

Still love the car to bits though, quick enough, good economy even fully loaded, performs really well in the snow (235/45/18 winter tyres help there).

Options I love:

Heated steering wheel

DCC

Panoramic Sunroof

Mood lighting

Smart Light Assist

Heated windscreen

Heated seats front and rear

Petrol Blue

ACC + Lane assist

2.0 TSI (not really an option, but lovely nonetheless)

Options I would have specced if the budget would have stretched that far:

Canton

AUX heater

Sportline

Love climate (over normal A/C) but cannot see the point in 3 zone climate, to be honest cannot see the point in 2 zone. Wifes Nissan has climate but its only one zone and is fine and that is what the Fabia has. Its a car after all and not a house with many rooms. How on earth can you keep different areas of a tin box at different temps.

On Saturday, I drove from Brecon to Stansted Airport to collect SWMBO and was minus temperatures all the way with occasional snow that got worse near Stansted.  I couldn't stay very warm for the whole of the journey and I could feel cold draughts in the cabin until I was nearly at my destination when I looked at the menu and found the temperature for the rear was set at "Lo", so had been throwing out cold air all the way!  Within a couple of minutes of changing it to heating, the cabin was much more comfortable.  I guess this proves you can't keep different areas of a tin box at different temperatures, even if I was a muppet not to realise sooner what the problem was!  The only way it could work would be to partition off the back like in a taxi.

I tried out TSR for the first time on a long journey since it was activated using VCDS a couple of weeks ago.  As other have commented, it's quite good but not always right, so it should only be used as an aid rather than relying on it.

Tri-zone is great because it keeps the kids happy. They invariably want a different temperature of air to us in the front, and it often avoids having to open a window.

2. Autopark. Used once, won’t use again. Love mine... but mainly for the extra sensors you get

I ordered this because it not only gave you the front sensors but the extra 4 sensors on the side. For a wide car they are useful.

I also thought I might sometimes use the auto park. Sometimes it's 'busy' alongside the house where I park and approaching from my usual direction I might need to parallel park on the right (RHD car) and you learn to parallel park on the other side (to do with direction of car when parked). Hope that makes sense. So parallel parking for me on the right is useful at times :-) It works better than the version on the Passat CC that I demoed in 2011 - that would sense a tree outside and just stop.

That irritates me with auto park, car finds a space, I stop and put it into reverse, car passes, system deactivates. I can parallel park it (usually more accurately) myself, but the sensors all round make it much easier. Pulling through my drive gates is a tight 90 degree turn, going up hill, so it's almost impossible to see where the front corner of the car is, and to focus on the side and not scraping the gate post too, the sensors make it so much easier!

I wonder if it would reverse park into the driveway, like it can in a car park? I've only tried that once. I'd have revered in a stopped but it reversed, then went forward and then finally finished by reversing. It will also park front ways in a space but never tried that.

Anyone figure out the parallel parking mode on the reverse camera where it tries to guide you and draws blocks around cars?

Heated and Ventilated seats

Heated Screen but now I want Heated side windows too.

DSG with Automatic Cruise is great.

1.4 works well

Would have liked the Boot foot thing, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, Canton and the Adaptive suspension.

The traffic sign recognition is rubbish as is right or wrong 50% of the time

I don't think the paddles are any use, not in my 1.4 anyway. Maybe in a 280? There is no engine braking or is that the DSG?

Auto Wipers?

I am glad I haven't got the keyless thing, loathed it on the last car, also glad not to have auto high beam, maybe the Adaptive light thing is better?

Disappointed the rear indicators aren't LED's  the fronts are very nice but the rears.......

Forgot to mention that I love keyless VERY VERY VERY much. I just hope its as safe as key (possible hayjacking?). I just miss sensors on rear doors as well (for sake of ease)

I have KESSY and not that fussed with it. I certainly would not have paid for it. Did not pay for front sensors or rear camera and do not miss them either. Glad I paid for the Canton upgrade and like the interior light package although serves no purpose other than looking nice!!!

The mrs car has keyless.. But I still use the keys to lock it ! Old habits eh..

I ticked just about every option available for my car except for the smoker's package and the gearshift paddles and only thing I regret is the WLAN which is of no use to me whatsoever.

I've got the L&K which is pretty well specced but in addition I would have liked:

-The reversing camera - a colleague has this on a Merc and its good.

-A panoramic sunroof- again a colleague has this on a Merc and i like the daylight effect

-The 10 interior ambient lighting colours the sportline has.  L&K only has 3 (first world problems I know).

I wouldn't give up any of the many things my car has though, I like using most of them!   Canton, ACC/lane assist and front/back heated seats are my faves.

ACC twinned with DSG is actually pretty sensational- was out with colleagues the other day on a mixed journey of motorway driving/motorway jams and they marvelled at how i could sit back and not touch the pedals very often.

Two perfect examples why I would not want heating controls in the rear. that last thing you want is the kids playing about with settings which could end up distracting the driver.

You can turn the rear controls off at the dash....   -ie lock them to a temperature that suits you.

No point at all having it in that case. Our rear temp is locked by the simple fact we cannot control it, and it was free.

I trust my kids enough to let them use it, and as Mickey43 says, you can always over-ride or disable them if they did ever decide to muck about.

I actually demolished the gate post pillar and rebuilt it two feet further to the right as I had scraped a couple of cars on it and I was not going to do the same to this one.
