When will the vRS order books open

Does anyone know when the vRS order books will be opening I am looking at changing my 14 plate vRS I had to wait 6 months for this one and 9 months for my MK2 before that. I am seriously thinking of going to another manufacturer I have driven the new Hyundai i30 N its an amazing car for for their first attempt at a hot hatch designed by the old BMW M division boss. They can also order me one and deliver in 8 weeks. I have complained to Skoda head office more than once about their delivery delays but they do have have an answers  I think its goodbye Skoda hello Hyundai.

i30N is getting rave reviews, i'd be concerned about resale value though. The vRS won't have amazing residuals but the Hyundai will definitely be worse. 

Currently in the same boat as yourself, waiting on confirmation of spec and the opening of the order book. I test drove the i30n about 6 weeks ago the performance version , it’s certainly a novelty and not a bad drive. Personally nowhere near as refined as a GTI or even the vRS, rear legroom was nonexistent once I sat in and that was a deal breaker for me, turned it into a 3 seater. It makes a wonderful noise in N mode and the rev matching is a nice feature. Unfortunately it will deprecate dramatically, but that can be resolved with man maths

Yes I agree. The Hyundai is getting lots of attention because it’s good and had good write ups from the journalists. 

 

But its ok for them, they won’t have to buy, own and utimately sell one. 

 

Thats is where it comes a cropper. 

 

It will have dreadful residuals and the plastics are very typical Korean/Japanese standard which makes them well below the Skoda quality we’ve come to expect over the years. 

 

Personally I’d think long and hard before parting with any deposit. 

 

Just my thoughts. 

Maybe the one built in the Czech Republic that will have a Warranty that the manufacturer will honour is the best one to go with and that can be ordered.

 

So that will be the Hyundai i30 N then.

Comes in a 250ps for £25,000 or 275ps for £28,000

It’s not worth the money. 

 

Simples... 

If you say so.

 

If the depreciation is really bad then they will be Much Cheapness as a used Hot hatch, 

and time will tell if the depreciation is worse than on a Octavia 245 vRS.

There is no autobox option with the Hyundai so that is something in the Skoda's favour. 

Just Skoda Warranty as a downer. Or how Skoda UK seem to deal with Warranty claims.

I'm with Edd on this one.

It looks great on paper and probably in practice but if you buy privately you'd be bonkers and set to be burnt.

Maybe on a decent hire purchase type agreements are all the rave.

 

Anyone with sensible head on would be buying a Golf or something, you could even have some limited GTi model ( not that I really like GTi's, for me it was only the mk1 I don't follow the models or brand at all ) but just being sensible.


Easy to spend someone elses money, more difficult to put your own money where your mouth is and actually put up and buy one yourself. lol

 

I agree with awaoffski too this is best to be hard as a nearly new purchase., but that means nustling in and being patient too not being at the front of the order books.

 

Did the same for my current o3, bought used from skoda -

don't regret in the slightest ( except that the octy is a huge beast would rather have had a hatch size and a bit thirsty lol ).

That said the GTI and Cupras are fair bit costly and when you are moving furniture etc that boot is a godsend !

 

If it was me I'd be sitting on it and waiting for Octy if I was spending new octy money personally, but to buy new would have to be one of their "specials" a 280 4x4 for instance ( and similar quality to the 245 rather than the 230 on seats etc) that would really hold on to its money better longer term.

Hyundai i30n does look good and sounds awesome. Having driven them at work for a few years you soon realise the materials they use are shocking. The interior is crap, Seat material just fades to nothing. 

 

I would not not use my own money to have one. No matter how fast/great sounding it is. 

Buying / leasing (renting) are rather different things, leasing being as much about the deal, deposit and monthlies,

and why some get an Octavia rather than a Golf, & because of space, or just the deal.  Not for the handling really is it, 

not for Track Days.  They all go at twice the NSL and get you passed slower vehicles and around a 60 mph speed limit bend.

New Focus ST out soon. Reported 275bhp....and probably will come as an estate.

Hmmm not sure the ST will get that much power, kinda rob sales from the RS but, I'm playing golf with a Ford salesman later so, I'll let you know

The don't seem exact competitors to me.

The VRS is a good car, but is more refined and has a big boot.

The i30N is aimed more at the ST, both handle better than the VRS but have compromises in terms of ride quality and interior quality over the VRS.

 

If I wanted a quick car that's fun and good for the family and A roads I'd lean towards the VRS.

If I wanted more fun, lively handling and B road jollies it would be the ST or i30N.

 

Worth noting both the i30N and the ST will be good buys after a year.

They will both suffer high initial depreciation as Ford sell cheap to non private customers and there are everywhere.

Where as the i30N is a Hyundai....   even if it is the best one they've made so far it still carries the badge.  A bit like the Skoda stigma a few years back.

But then having said that, there was a VRS 4x4 up for sale 18month old for £16,000 a few weeks back.  Almost a £30,000 car IIRC.  So not sure there is much difference in depreciation.

Also heard its it’s going to be a 1.5 turbo :/

Simple why FORD would call it the ST and give it RS power.

The New Focus RS being discontinued after 2 years and people still having issues getting the fixes or new replacement engines or cars bought back

because of the Fundamental Design, Manufacturing and Material failures.

With VW releasing a 350 bhp Golf R in the near future. The RS will compete with that.

Yeah straight from the horse's mouth, the new 275bhp engine will be a turbo-charged 1.5 Ecoboost in the next ST but, it's many months away from being released. Although, he can't use all the 240 in this one without spinning it up. Looking at the tyres I know why

VW have closed the order books on the Up GTI,  demand so high,  closed the order books on the Golf GTE, demand too high, 

Closed order books on 230 / 245 Octavia.  Seat shortage for the Karoq,  and other such nonsense.

 

They announce this and that and the other and what they need is cars to sell that have Real World test results and can be sold in Europe and rest of the world without dodgy EU Test results from the old system, 

and they need Hybrids and EV's more than performance models with Implausible / Irregular Co2 g/km and fuel use figures.

 

So as much spin on new HALO models from VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Porsche they need to get the new engines and gearboxes in the bread and butter models that the Dealerships sell or lease.

If 20% of Octavia sold in the UK are vRS Models then that means 80% are not.

The RS is being discontinued after 2 years for a very good reason.

They are stopping production of the mk3 Ford Focus  and the RS (being a mk3) is build on the same production lines.

The RS traditionally comes along late in model life and always has a short life span to see the model out as a halo product to help keep interest and sales up.

If they don't shut the production lines, they can't produce the next model... :D

 

The mk4 ST will come out before the RS so it does make sense to up it's power as it won't compete with the RS.  The RS has already finished production.

 

The other point, "Fundamental Design, Manufacturing and Material failures".

Well, Ford dropped one on the RS and fitted the wrong head gasket.  Allegedly the Mustang 2.3 one, which uses the same base engine.

This has lead to issues which were corrected last year and earlier cars are now all covered by a recall.

Annoying to owners yes, but not what you state which is vauge.

 

They are pressure testing cars and either fitting a new head gasket or a new head depending on the results of the test.

The residuals for the Vrs and i30n are very similar, if not better for the i30n.

Both cars around £25000.

 

After 4 years and 5000miles per year both have a gfv of around £9300. 

10000 miles £8700 for both. 

 

3 years and 5000 i30n : £11434

VRS : £10747

 

I30n is a cracking car, very tempted to swap my vrs for one.

Just fed up of being lied to by Skoda on why the order books are closed and why it takes so long to order a car I complained to them 7 years ago on this subject and nothing has changed. I wrote to the CEO and his secretary phoned back and said sorry a lot and talked a lot of nonsense but did not give any answers he is always to busy to answer his customers questions.

Write to the new one then Rod Mcleod,  been with VW since 1996 so he will know how poor Skoda UK were under Alasdair Stewart and then the last 2 years under Duncan Movassaghi who is off to the USA.  I hope he has soap and a rope with him.  Very brave seeing as he has been with Skoda, VW, Skoda and VW again, must know nothing about fraud...

Obviously they say how well Skoda UK had done in the 2 years while he was at the head.

Sign of how the customer satisfaction surveys are done by employees maybe.
