Just purchased car - question about timing belt/chain

Featured Replies

Hi all

I’m new here, I’ve just purchased my first Skoda (used) and I pick it up on Friday.

The garage I purchased the car from said that he would service/Mot and change the timing belt (as it has done 44k miles) before i pick it up. I went today to pay my deposit and he told me that it doesn’t actually have a timing belt it has a chain.

I have noticed that there seem seem to be a lot of issues and questions regarding timing chains on skodas and I am a bit concerned.

1: does my car have a chain or belt

2: how likely is it to break?

3: is this a know issue with this car?

Its a 2013 (13) Skoda Fabia 1.2 TSI 105 Monte Carlo Tech and has done 44000miles.

thank you

Welcome.

A chain and highly unlikely to break, and no issues with the tensioner as the early ones could have.

Enjoy your new car.

A 2013 1.2 Fabia tsi 105 will have an 8 valve EA111 cam chain engine (troublesome earlier in life , sorted by 2013)

A 2015 1.2 Fabia tsi 108 will have a 16 valve EA211 cam belt engine  (totally fdifferent in design)

I have a 16 valve 1.4 EA111 cam chain engine in my Superb and love it

Thank you! It’s only my second car. I’ve been driving a 2005 Ford KA so I am looking forward to something better!

You’ll need to get a stage 1 map on it  don’t forget to join us over at the Monte Carlo owners club on facebook

Jeeez, quite an upgrade then :D

Sounds like a nice garage too... If they were planning on fitting a new cam belt at such a low mileage. Might be worth asking them to re-gass the air-con as they have no need to do the belt!
