New door lock fitted, instantly double locked!

Featured Replies

Guys I'm hoping you can help.

I purchased my VRS with a permanently locked rear door but having done a couple of these on Mk4 golf platformed cars before I wasnt overly phased by this.

Anyway got the door open (o/s/r) and removed the offending lock.

New one bolted in and connected up.

Went to shut door and it bounced back on the striker, assuming it was in locked position already I pushed the latch over with a screwdriver and then closed the door. Now its stuck!

The lock is working and moving around when I lock and unlock the car so its not broken but I cant open it.

Im reluctant to smash a second lock to bits knowing its fully functional but how do I open the door again.

Fortunately the door card is still off.

I eagerly await your replies and I am massively frustrated right now

Door cards off so thats the hard bit done.

You can cut the top of the lock mech open with a Stanley blade.

Good chance the dead bolt slider pin has stuck out,

Then use 2 small allen keys to wind the plastic cog back to pull the dead bolt pin manually. 1 allen to wind, the other to hold it as its a spring loaded pita.

Once it back, it should open up.

Alternatively, you werent careful counting the threads on the outer door pull cable. If its gone back in too tight, by a single thread it wont let the latch release. Id check that before cutting the lock open though.. just pop the outer civer off again and photograph/count the threads. Then loosen it back gently. If no joy, fully un hook it and try pulling the inner door release cable.

Lovely thanks for that info, its really annoyed me as I've done this job 3 times before.

I have since purchased another lock (only £13.50 delivered) so if needs me will punish the fitted one.

Only question I do have is how do I get the door handle cover off with the door shut because the bolt will be done up?
