Does my park pilot park my car?

Featured Replies

I have a 2016 vrs and have park pilot menu - I have read the instructions but makes no sense.

I have no rear ear camera but have front and rear parking sensors.

My reverse lights work when engage reveal as have read this has been an issue for some?

so my question is - do I have facility where car will do the parking if I do brake, accelerator and it does the steering?

ive tried for 15 minutes to get it to bloody park and it won’t.

Screenshots from car.

I have ‘p’ button and cone in front of gear knob.

Any help or advice appreciated.

Ryan.

Do you have the all round sensors or is it just front and rear? The ones that park themselves have sensors all round. I seriously need to fix my parking sensors as everytime I see a post about them or reminds me that mine don’t work

When you say all around - where are the other sensors apart from the front and rear bumpers

sorry of if that’s a dumb thing to ask??

On or around the wheel arches, front and back

As above, self park cars have 12 sensors in total :)

Well I’ve checked and none on sides around wheel arch - just on front and rear bumpers -

I guess that means I don’t have park pilot? If not wasted 15 minutes in a car park this evening - getting very frustrated. Doh

it just confused me because of the menu.  The car is 2nd hand by the way.

I guess so, you’ll be parking yourself, like a peasant for the foreseeable I guess. I remember trying tech out on a Mk2 Superb a while ago and it was pretty cool, and I’m sure it’s moved on since then, but I prefer to do it myself!

Same as my 230, I find the front and rear sensors very good. When Mrs Goldfinger is present I like to leave it until the sensors have a solid beep and the visual aid goes red. Still have a bout a foot to go but it winds Mrs G up............RESULT

One definitive way to check;
Look at the sticker under the boot carpet or in the owners manual and then input the codes to igorweb if it's a 2013 or younger model

Don't worry too much. I've had Park Assist for five months and never found the need to use it.

And the side senors are too sensitive and go off too often including every time I reverse through the gates on my drive. And you can't individually set the volume like you can on the fronts and rears.

It likes to align with the existing cars so that could be the cause there.

Park pilot is different to Park assist, pilot is just what VW Group use instead of the term Park Distance Control. Assist is what actually parks for you.

In addition to the front, rear and side sensors as mentioned, you should also have an extra button on the panel near the gear lever, which has a steering wheel on it and a letter P if you have Park Assist.

I used it once and panicked it was going to ruin my wheels so I took over and never used since. OP you aren't missing much! Oh and the extra side sensors have a tendency to trigger randomly when in slow moving traffic and other cars are beside you!

My tuppence worth.  You can have 120 sensors around your car...

...but unless you have that 'P' button with the steering wheel symbol alongside, then you don't have the self-park option fitted.

I find the auto bay parking a pain-in-the-butt - tried it several times, it takes far too long. Same with manouvering out of a parking space, takes too long.  In anycase, if you can't drive out of a parking space then I'd question the ability of that driver to be behind the wheel of a car.

Never really used parallel parking in past cars but I find the 2017 Octavia's self-parking very easy to use. If I have one complaint tho, it's that it parks too far away from the kerb so having trouble understanding how alloys get kerbed. Perhaps Skoda changed the programming in FL models?

Agreed with the above, I have this one mine and I've used it once to see if it worked novelty factor and all that.  It did, but don't think I will ever use it again. It didn't kerb the wheels, but I didn't trust it the whole time and would stop if I thought it was going to get too close.  That defeats the object somewhat, I'd rather park it myself!

Don't trust the machine!

Also agree with the sensitivity of the sensors, way too sensitive and they seem to go off all the time when moving slowly among cars, either parked or not. It gets to a point when you start ignoring them, which is actually more dangerous because that's what they should be there for!

Volume, gah, yea! Wish they had an adjustment to lower that...or a disable tick!

Off topic, but I might look to see if there is a way to disable the side sensors in VCDS and just have standard front and rear sensors, which is plenty!

I'll 3rd that, i have it and have never used it as i prefer to park the car myself.

I can see its good for those that struggle to park but i still think it should only be regarded as a parking aid and shouldn't be relied upon to be totally autonomous
