Cheap lowering solution - Greenline springs?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Loving my 2009 2.0 TDI PD Elegance so far, looks nice on the 18 alloys but its too tall - it really seems to sit too high, the wheelarch gaps are too big and it would look loads better an inch or so lower.

So, whats the cheapest solution? I know the Greenline model came with lower suspension to make it slippier, so could I just fit OEM Greenline springs? Or are there decent 'economy' lowering springs out there?

TIA

Adam

Unless you have a source for cheap OEM Greenline Springs then aftermarket lowering springs will likely be cheaper.

That is a good point Offski! But are the cheaper lowering springs any good? Does anyone have any experience of them?

I never said get cheap ones, i said likely cheaper than OEM Greenline ones that i expect not to be cheap.

Get Eibach, H&R or the likes.

You asked about a cheap lowering solution.

The Greenline springs won't be rated for the extra weight of the 2.0 engine.

After that, you get what you pay for.

There have been complaints from some Greenline owners of bottoming out over speed bumps.

The backend of my standard S model (not Greenline!) twindoor really sags when full of people / luggage. I suppose I push the limits a bit as my son is 6ft 5" and a friend of his we took on holiday was 6ft 7", with a suitcase to match!!

What I think would be a good idea is adjustable suspension - I remember installing this on my fathers Volvo estate many years ago where you had a pressure gauge and adjusted the rear suspension with an air compressor. Havent found the equivalent yet for the Superb.

I've fitted H&R lowering springs to my Greenline as I didn't like the ride height. Generally no problems with speed bumps, I maybe just touch 1 in 10 on the plastic undertray but no worries other than that.

Greenline suspension. The floorpan hits some nasty speedbumps unless going at crawling pace, especially with people in the back. Driving on and off certain curbs, floorpan hits the ground (crappier parking lots). Driving at walking pace through deeper potholes, the floorpan hits the ground. All the cars in the family are lower than average from factory, but the Greenline Superb is the only one I'm having this issue with.

I'm pretty sure the floorpan is lower to the ground than the sideskirt, so it doesn't look all that low.

The suspension was checked three months ago, no issues reported.

I have ABT Sportsline dampers and uprated/lowered springs on mine, fitted from new by a Swiss Skoda tuning dealer called Embrach (a bit like 'M' or 'AMG' tuning). Lowered by about 30 mm....I have posted elswhere about the ride quality etc. on these forums. Bottom line, fabulous.

Our 2010 Elegance has the factory sports suspension which is lowered by 30mm. The ride is not too firm, and handles well.

However, I've now ripped off the under tray a number of times (not on speed bumps though). After fixing them a few times I removed the 'rear most' section on both sides. My wife has also torn up the underside of the rear bumper on a steep driveway transition, ruining the recent repaint.

So, be careful if you are lowering your car, and be prepared for parts to come in contact with the road!
