Vertical Line through Infotainment screen

Recommended Posts

I have a 2018 Octavia SE with the standard infotainment touch screen with touchscreen buttons and smartlink (not sure if that makes it bolero, amundsen or whatever). I have noticed a little vertical line, about 2/3rds from the left, running through the screen of what I would deem to be dead pixels. It's mostly noticeable when it is displaying brighter hues - ie when displaying maps through the smartlink.  Turning off/on doesn't make a difference, it's there in every mode (you can see it in radio station logos for example).

I called in and showed my dealer when I was passing yesterday who agreed that I am not imagining things. I tried to photograph it but it just doesn't show it's so faint.

So the car is booked in for investigation next week - they have to go through the full process as they have never seen that sort of fault before but the tech suggested that they will probably end up replacing the screen and dispatching the faulty unit back to Skoda for investigation. Watch this space.

Not a good sign though - I've only had the car 4 months. As always, it's the techy intricate stuff that acts up first - all the mechanical stuff feels pretty bombproof so far.

Well on this plus side, dealer agrees theres a fault, and liklihood is the screen will be replaced.  Should be a relatively easy job I should think.

Like any LCD screen, theres a margin for failure of them, so you were likely just unlucky.

Very annoying I bet. I had a vertical line on the MaxiDot screen on my previous Octavia Mk2.  At that time it couldn't be repaired and the warranty didn't cover a new instrument cluster. It wasn't a new car.

Thankfully though it never got any worse in the 10 years I had the car.

For you though, since you are under warranty at least they will replace your unit free of charge!

It's been in, they have run diagnostics and a software flash and.... ordered me a replacement screen.

The car will have to go back to have the new screen fitted under warranty when the parts arrive, but maybe those with touch screens will want to look out for similar.

I realize this post is from last year, but I just noticed two vertical lines in my Amundsen touch screen as well. I only bought the two-year old Octavia a few weeks ago but unfortunately the warranty just  ran out in June. Do you have any idea what replacing the screen would've cost if it weren't covered by the warranty?

Easy job to do it yourself and budget in the region of £200 for a screen that size.  Every other MIB2 screen is compatible with that system apart from the 9.2 Columbus screen.  Also, the MIB1 Columbus screen will work if you are not bothered about keeping the glass panel.

Before you go doing anything yourself I'd ask the dealer you bought from.  These short warrantees are a bit confusing.  There is a 6 month period following the sale that the seller is obligated to correct any issues.  Look up consumer rights etc on the google.

Old thread revival time. My 67 plate Octavia has just developed the exact same problem in the exact same place. I've got it booked in for next week and I took the skoda extended warranty so hopefully no drama (or cost) getting it replaced.

If you have any problems and assuming your build week is between CW 22/2017 to CW 48/2018, mention TPI 2051234/5 as that covers this issue :)

Just a quick boring update for this, the garage confirmed a new media screen was required. Didn't have to pay a penny as it was covered on the Skoda extended warranty.

Bone was the original screen had a scratch in the middle from when I bought it so that is now gone.

Even if your car's out of warranty it's worth contacting your dealer.

Mine developed the same fault over the Christmas period...of course, just a few months out of warranty.

I sent the screen off to a VAG specialist who informed me that it's a common fault across the VAG group, it's around £800 for a new screen, but in their opinion not worth spending the money on, as it is just an aesthetic problem.

After reading about a TPI (TPI 2051234/5) to these screens on another thread on Briskoda (TPI 2051234/5), I thought I'd drop my dealer a line to see if they had any suggestions, as they've been consistently excellent during my time of ownership.

As the car has a full Skoda service history, they were going to inspect it and contact Skoda UK to see if they could get them to make a goodwill contribution towards the cost of a replacement. I got a call this morning me to let me know that Skoda are offering a substantial goodwill contribution and has brought the cost down from "I'll put up with it." to "Please replace it!" so is on order now.

Hopefully that helps others on here.

Cheers,

Nick
